Posters Galore: True Blood Season 3
I miss True Blood!!! Its been months months since Season 2 ended...and Season 3 will only start in June...still a long wait to go. I wish there was a shorter lag time in between the seasons...especially since each season consist of only 12 episodes...we shouldn't have to wait for another season this long. Plus there's like 10 books in the series. And each season is one book...so it could go up to 10 seasons. So this could go on for 10 years? May I remind whoever who is working behind True Blood...Vampires don't grow old!!! Stephen Moyer would be a 50 year old guy playing a 35 year old looking vampire...that just won't do will it? So hurry things up while, the genre, the actors and the show itself is still hot.
Anyhow...as always...love their posters. Now this one kinda remind me of Daybreakers...with the whole coffee thing.
Out & About: Amelia, Brothers, Fame and Planet 51
Out on DVD this week is Amelia...an Amelia Earhart biopic that looks like a lengthy borefest. Then there's Brothers a film I saw in the cinemas a few months back. I was surprised after watching this, that it had actually received a PG rating...I mean there are some very dark and heavy themes here...and the only caution added was "Some Coarse Language"...no really...language is the only thing to watch out for. On a lighter note there's the remake Fame...which I don't think I've ever seen the original in its entirety...and as a kid, I didn't even know Fame was about kids at an art school. Because lets face it, the cast then was probably old enough to be teachers rather than kids attending a school. And lastly there's the animation Planet 51.

Posters Galore: Eclipse
Nope, don't like it. Seriously, I think the posters for each movie has grown progressively worse. I grew to like very much the first Twilight poster. It actually had the story in mind for that first one. Then the New Moon posters were...argh just boring...I just like the trees in the background. And now its the Eclipse poster. It doesn't even look like the main theatrical poster...looks more like those cast/character posters. And once again, can Bella's hair look even more like a wig? It kinda even look like the Passengers poster.

RandomRants/Thoughts: The New Jane Eyre Adaptation
I love watching adaptations especially those of my own favourite books or adaptations of classic literature. Now according to this, the new adaptation of Jane Eyre has started filming. I had posted on it almost a year ago when Ellen Page was first said to be Jane Eyre, and had commented on how she doesn't really fit in a period drama...I guess everyone else saw that too. The new Jane is Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender is Mr Rochester and the movie is being directed Cary Fukunaga. I think Mia Wasikowska is the perfect age and fits the physcial description of Jane, though not quite as plain...but the make-up people will surely fix that right? On the other hand, Michael Fassbender is an interesting choice for Mr Rochester...he is fairly young...was Mr Rochester not late 30's or early 40's...and equally plain and fairly large? Oh well, I guess they would need to sell this classic gothic period drama somehow right? Regardless, I'm still looking forward to this. Its always interesting to see a different take on the same material. And I have enjoyed pretty much every adaptation of Jane Eyre I've seen.

The Scene: Closer - All the glittering assholes who appreciate art say it's beautiful 'cause that's what they wanna see
Oh Art! Its so subjective. What's beautiful to one is a bore or horrid to another. I've never really understood most art too... what is considered good or bad....especially those modern art installation type of things? Seriously...most just follow with the hype right? A few art critics says its good...the art community and fans nod in unison (are movies any different?)...while the rest of us stare and wonder what is it that they're seeing. So yes I agree with Alice. I think she says it pretty well. But of course her opinion is swayed by the fact she was the subject in the picture. [SPOILER!!!] Her heart was after all breaking as the picture was taken, after finding out that her boyfriend was about to cheat on her and has chosen to continue doing so. One of my favourite quotes from the movie so thus, one of my favourite scenes too including the scene when the picture was taken.

Out & About: Asto Boy, The Box, New Moon...
So a bunch of titles out the past week most likely to take advantage of the March school holidays. First up is the 2nd Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Next is another kids movie Astro Boy. Then there's Richard Kelly's The Box which didn't fare really well among cinema goers and the critics. Hachiko: A Dog's Story (Hachiko: A Dog's Tale) is also out on DVD this week...ready the tissues. And lastly there's of course New Moon...which comes in a two disc special edition set.

50 Best Movies [I've Seen] Of The Decade: No 21. Lord Of The Rings
Ahh Lord of the Rings. Though I have always love watching movies...I had watched few movies in the theaters in the past...and this was one of the few that I actually saw. And what a great movie to see in the theaters...I was mesmerized. Visually it was just beyond stunning. It was as if Middle Earth actually existed. I had never before seen a fictional world that seemed so very real. The landscape was just beautiful. The costumes were gorgeous...and the characters...such wonderful iconic characters...and you know what I thought they did well too? They managed to pull off the classic notions of heroes and knights in shining armors full of honor and respect...which I thought was a pretty rare thing. The villains too were great...Sauron and his all seeing eye...the Ringwraiths...among others. And the special effects. I loved how they managed to make the hobbit look soo much smaller than everyone else and Gandalf so much taller. Its just all those things that just worked in these movies that made them awesome, when there's just soo many other fantasy films that just fails soo horribly. This was truly epic.

The Scene: Pride & Prejudice - And how are you this evening... Mrs. Darcy?
Its been several years since I've watched the 2005 Pride and Prejudice movie and years more since I've read the book. But I do remember how much I cringed when I saw the ending of the American theatrical cut of the 2005 movie. Take a look below.
I mean I don't think this was how the novel ended...so its certainly not called for...did they really need to up the romance factor with the leads half dressed with the rubbing of legs? And overly lovey dovey gushy talk? Arghh...it was just soo horribly cheesy. I much preferred...the other alternative ending, which I believe was the UK cut that ended with Darcy asking Mr Bennet for Lizzie's hand in marriage, and Mr Bennet asking Lizzie if this was what she really wanted. Though simpler in nature I thought that was a more fitting ending definitely and consistent in tone with the rest of the story.

Out & About: Zombieland
Out on DVD this week is Zombieland. And I definitely definitely recommend this. Saw it in the theaters and its just loads of fun and just incredibly funny. And Columbus's rules actually make sense.
Trailer Watch: The Twilight Saga Eclipse
I've been so out of touch with all the movie news out the past week that I'm only learning about the Eclipse teaser trailer. As you might know if you follow my blog, I actually follow the Twilight series. I've read the first two books and watch the movie adaptations. And yes I do recognize that they are not by any means great films...but I enjoy them for what they were. And I've hoped that they would get better with each movie especially considering that they're getting a bigger budget for each and assuming they learn from past mistakes
And with David Slade at the helm for Eclipse (the guy who directed Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night...two films which I rather liked) and this one promising to be better and darker? As usually most sequels do...I have hoped that this would be a step up from the last. But...this trailer disappoints.
It starts with the romantic stuff, a profession of love...and Jacob still being the other alternative dude out there. A third into it we get a peak at the bad guys who wants to bring the Bella down...So that's the gist of the story that the trailer tries to put across. But its what those chosen scenes show that just horribly disappoints...Maybe its just me...but it just seems that the production value for Eclipse took a dip. The first shot of the distinct 'Twilight' Pacific Northwest treetops were beautiful, I thought, as was captured in the previous movie, but then we cut to a scene of Bella and Edward in the meadow? Where it pretty much look like the crew stuck plastic blue flowers in the earth that looks barren of even grass? I mean give me that blue flowers scene in Bright Star! Now that was beautiful. I thought they were suppose to give us scenes that teenage girls could coo and gush over?
Second...the close-ups of Bella shows that Kristen is wearing a wig...which is no secret...but must it be soo obvious...but wait there's a contender, Bryce Dallas Howard has one of the worst wigs ever...its looks soo heavy on her and like someone just flopped that thing on her...and dear Jacob...how issit that you look less bulk up here than New Moon?
What can I say...I hope the actual Trailer has something better for us to look forward to.

Out & About: Where the Wild Things Are
Not much released this week. I remember at least seeing two new titles the past week, but can't seem to remember one of them. But here's the one I do remember. Where the Wild Things Are. The movie came out with a certain amount of buzz...not here locally of course...I don't think the book it was based on was very popular in our island. I've certainly never heard of it until I heard about the movie...and I don't think the movie did too well in the theaters here too.

The Scene: (500) Days of Summer - I woke up one morning and I just knew
The first time I did The Scene was a few months ago in which I wrote about one of my favourite scenes from my all time favourite movie Great Expectations. You can read it here. So I'm starting up the...well...you can call it feature...but I'm gonna change things up. I won't necessarily highlight favourites...it could simply be a scene that stood out and got my attention good or bad. Warning...SPOILERS UP AHEAD
(500) Days of Summer (2009)
I can't quite find a clip for it, but the above will do. Clips are after all hard to come by. Even the quotes for the exact scene are not really out there. Anyhow the scene I'm talking about is the bench scene, near the end of the movie. Summer is a married woman and Tom asks her how this could be? Because how could a girl who did not believe in love...fall in love and get married...to another man (not Tom, even though he was head over heels for her). And this was said...
Summer: I woke up one morning and I just knew.
Tom: Knew what?
Summer: What I was never sure of with you.
Ouch right. She practically punched him in the gut...which was evident by him looking at her shocked and subsequently turning away. Hurt...that she had been the ONE for him...and finding out for the first time he had never been for her...he says something along the lines of...It sucked realizing that everything you believe (Love...and the whole the One and soulmate thing) in is complete bullshit. To which she says that he was right...to believe those things...he was just not right about her.
I just love this scene...which I have mention once in this blog before that I just love the truths that came out… just the simple heartbreaking truths of their relationship in that scene…were just cutting…though it wasn’t intended to be malicious, but its just the nature of how truths can be. And I love the reaction to those truths that played out on Tom's face. You just see all the hurt...and I love Summer's honesty...she really does have an almost childlike honesty to her...truly...I thought Tom needed those truth...the other perspective of their relationship in order for him to move on. Because lets face it just because you think someone's the ONE for you...doesn't mean that someone think you are the ONE for them...you might just be the second best they're settling for, for the moment. And even if you really think you're the ONE for each other...have you really sort out everything out there to know its the perfect fit...for sure. I know it sucks right. Another reason why I love the movie and this scene... is that they managed to put these bleak notions in a lighter and colourful and "enjoyable" manner...instead of being overly deary and metaphoric.
