50 Best Movies [I've Seen] Of The Decade: No 20. Let The Right One In
The movie is just so subtle. It just doesn’t try to do anything too hard to make it scary and in your face. The setting is horribly fitting for such a story. It all takes place in a cold snowy Swedish town, where the pale and the cold blooded would not look out of place…and the colours and the lighting just makes everything all the more eerie. And the story…its just soo good. Boy meets girl and girl is a vampire…simple as that. Girl needs to do things to survive…and it just comes down to that…the basic need to survive…its not glossified and glorified and even gory-fied either. The boy is lonely and in her finds an unlikely friend. So is the girl too, being what she is, lonely. So despite him being her natural prey, she befriends him. Its been said that even if this was not a vampire themed movie…it would still make a compelling coming of age tale of two individuals who feel thoroughly out of place in their world. But as it is…the supernatural aspect of it and the danger make it all the more gripping. One of the best of its genre. And I’m really looking forward to the American version of the same story, Let Me In coming out soon.
Out & About: Couples Retreat, Gamer, The Informant
As the titles state. Out this week on DVD is Couples Retreat, which was said to be not all that funny. Next is Gamer, another Gerard Butler vehicle and lastly there's the Informant, Matt Damon's comedic take on a whistle blower. Yep...nothing interesting out...at least for me.

50 Best Movies [I've Seen] Of The Decade: No 19. Jeux d'enfants Love Me If You Dare
Saw this a few years ago and completely fell for it. How much more dysfunctional can a love story get? Then a couple who plays a simple game of dare well into their adulthood.
The movie is just shot wonderfully. I was enchanted. Its dreamy, bright and colourful and shot in a fantastical story book manner…which I later found was very similar to another French film released a few years earlier called Amelie…but…I greatly enjoy the overall look of it here more.
And the story…what a ride. Born out of grief and hurt…a game is started by Julien and Sophie as children. A wicked wicked game of dare. The things on the line? Everything. Risk everything. From their very life and their heart. Its soo enthralling to see the game they continually play, no matter how much more dangerous it got and how much it seem to hurt them…emotionally...the older they get.
I love love this movie…I’ve been trying to find a DVD of it…but to no avail. Its dark and funny...its everything I like in a movie. And if you like dysfunctional love stories…this would be one to watch. So are you game?

Random Rants/Thoughts: Does crappy creature feature get more viewers than Survivor
Survivor...the 100th season...is back. Ok no kidding...its like the 20th season now? Previous seasons the local channel, Ch 5 used to air it at 11pm or 10 pm on Fridays. Now it seems for this current season, they have changed the time slot...pushed it way back, to 12:30am Saturday morning. Happened for this the first and now the second episode. What puzzles me is that its not like they have a much better show to fill up that slot. Can't remember what was on last Friday, but this Friday...at 10:30pm...brace yourself...it is...drum roll...Glass Trap...some crappy creature feature. Seriously...does Glass Trap get more viewers than Survivor? Really? I think not. I know Survivor has been on forever with all these conniving characters time and again...but with all the bad tv shows and horrible reality tv shows currently on air (especially those celebrity driven ones)... Survivor is one of those that still manages to remain entertaining...I at least find it so and have continued watching
So my question again is... really? These creature features get more audience...?

Movies I Want to Watch in 2010
I know this list is a bit late seeing that we're mid way through the second month of the year. But I did it last year, so I thought it fitting I did it again this year. However late. And the only reason it has taken me this long to put it out is because of work and because I still have the 50 Best Movies [I've Seen] Of The Decade list... which I have yet to complete. This list does have a serious absence of the more international fare, because honestly I usually don't know and have not heard about them until they actually get released. Other than that, I think I have a pretty mix bag of films I want to watch in 2010
1.
Will only be released in Singapore this week. Gothic horror movie? I'm in.
2.
Its the unfunny version of Zombieland. Pretty good trailer and what a fitting choice of song.
3.
I'm a sucker for these low key type of dramas... I think I'll enjoy this one.
4.
Not thoroughly impressed with the trailer. But I've heard soo much about the book...and well I've already got that...so I'll have to see this when it gets here in March...or at least when its on dvd.
5.
The movie managed to secure some of the most talented kids to do the two leads...and they've certainly had the look right. So I'm really curious to see how this film is.
6.
KICK-ASS tells the story of average (more...)
Have you seen the trailers for this? Or the numerous clips out there? How can I not want to see this? I'm just hoping it lives up to whatever its the clips and trailers seem to offer.
7.
I'm not big on chick flicks. But I do watch them sometimes. I find Amanda Seyfried sweet and charming and she sold this movie.
8.
I love costume pictures. And the last Robin Hood movie we've seen was the Kevin Costner one. Can this do better? It certainly has the actors for it. I have a feeling archery will become popular again when this comes out.
9.
Yes. I'm into the whole Twilight thing. So of course Eclipse will be on this list.
10.
I have a feeling this movie will not cause a ripple in the box office. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe its good...or bad...very likely...but its a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast. If its bad...I want to see how bad it actually is.
12.
This is one of those comic book properties...where the film adaptation has received a lot of buzz. I'm not familiar at all with the comic. But all the hype has gotten me curious...so therefore its on this list.
13.
A modern retelling of the Scarlet Letter set in a high school...and a comedy too? Could it be another Clueless? 10 Things I hate About You?
14.
Loved Let the Right One In, and I don't really care if this comes to soon after. Its not really a remake too issit. Just another adaptation of the Swedish novel. I've said this before, a lot people are not too keen with the idea of Let Me In, but I am. I'd like to see Let Me In's take of the same story.
15.
Sounds something like life action Shrek? But it has good bunch of actors. Hopefully its funny.
16.
Its a Harry Potter movie. Enough said. I cannot, not watch it.
17.
Is this movie ever going to come out. I've been waiting since 2008.
18. Somewhere
Sofia Coppola's fourth film. Not an entirely original premise...but I like the stuff she's done...so I want to see this.
19.
Saw the trailer a few weeks ago. Looks pretty good. And there's some decent acting from Robert Pattinson. Surely that's something to watch.
20.
Another Legion for Paul Bettany? Maybe. But we haven't seen to many good Vampire action movie. Could this be it?
21.
I've never watch the original movie. And frankly I find the whole premise stupid. Couldn't believe when it was to be remade. But hey it could be those, its soo bad its good.
22. Never Let Me Go
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name.Starring Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield. Its undoubtedly a drama...and I think it could be good.
23.
I've always thought that Kristen Stewart is a good actress...despite whats been said about Twilight. You just have to see the stuff she's done prior. And this and The Runaways was pretty well received at Sundance wasn't it?
24.
Its a supernatural thriller about a ballerina and her rival. Imagine a darken ballet studio with all those huge mirrors on all the walls. Put on some classical music. Tell me that's not scary.
25. The Moth Diaries
An adaptation of a novel of the same name about a girl suffering from mental illness who suspects her schoolmate is a vampire. Issit all in her head or issit not. I'd like to know too. Of course I'd might just read the book first, but I'm certainly curious how the movie will turn out.
26. Brighton Rock
Never did manage to see the 1947 Brighton Rock. Now there's a new adaptation...hopefully this new one will get a release here.
27.
The thing about checking yourself into a mental institution is that you might not be able to check yourself out. You might think you're just in there for a week to rest your mind, but who know when you'll be able to get out. But in all seriousness, this is a comedy. It has an interesting premise and I expect some good laughs.
28.
Its one of those high concept movies like Open Water. Now this one asks, what if you're stranded on a chairlift...while the rest of the world has forgotten or didn't even know that you were up on the slopes. I've seen the trailer and it looks decent enough. I want to see how it plays out.
