Out & About : DVDs, Books and Toys

DVDs

So this week theres tons of movie/tv stuff. First up movies new on dvd. The bromance movie I Love You Man, starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel. Management with Jennifer Anniston, that honestly looks pretty dull, even the poster is. There's also one of this year's biggest summer blockbuster Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. Currently only code 1 is available in both single and double disc. There's also the Halloween themed movie Trick 'r Treat that never managed to get a theatrical release...its great that it got dvd release here though. And finally the Wizard of Oz is celebrating its 70th anniversary. I've seen a couple of the Ultimate Collectors Edition boxset at several stores. I believe they are code 1. And there also the release of the 70th anniversary two disc set...which is available in code 3...I think.

Now on to TV series on DVD. The Big Bang Theory Second Season...was the first season ever released here? Josh Whedon's Dollhouse also finally lands on our shores. Not on tv but on dvd. Maybe its time to forget about regular tv programming. Then there's Sons of Anarchy...a series I know nothing about and finally Two and a Half Men Season six was also released the past week.

Wow...like I said...lots of releases.

Books

Saw the movie tie-in for the Picture of Dorian Gray. Maybe the cover, with good looking people on it would encourage people to pick up the book. Its one of my favourites. And since we have the movie tie-in, does that mean we'll get the movie soon? Oh I hope so.

Toys

Yes I finally saw the Twilight action figures here in Singapore. It was at {prologue} the new bookstore at ION. Bit pricy though. The one on the left is going for $39 and the the right $69. If you a fan...go grab it now.

Eclipse Title Card

I've been quite behind on all these movie stuff...anyhow, I just checked out the Eclipse title card that The Official Summit Twilight movie Twitter recently released. I like it better than the New Moon title card. This one looks stronger, colder and sharper. And the little hints of red shadow for the fonts looks good. My guess for the Breaking Dawn Title card colours....red and white.

Borders Twilight New Moon Merchandise

New Moon opens in about a month or so, so we've been pretty much been bombarded with plenty of New Moon stuff. The soundtrack was released a week ago. Online, there's tons of new movie stills and the past week, 2 clips/spots have been released. Oh and wait till you see all the New Moon merchandise...well you can actually...all on a clip/advertisement that Borders came up with to show what they have in their stores. Watch it below.

"This is my favourite, that's my favourite, I love..." ...Nooo.Isn't it ridiculous the kind of stuff they churn out...the jewellery, the keychains, the bookmarks...the T-shirts...some of the cheesiest and ugliest stuff ever. The T-shirts especially are horrible horrible...who wears that kinda stuff? 10 year olds? I mean I love movie, geek centric T-shirts but having full blown pictures of actors/characters on your T-shirts...noo, definitely a no no...totally lame.

Now I gotta admit though, I like the action figures. They look pretty good. I've seen some of the close up pics of them and they bear some pretty good likeness to the actors. So yeah...I want them. Are they bringing them to the local Borders?

Random Rants/Thoughts: The Ninja Assassin Trailer

Saw the trailer for Ninja Assassin twice when I went to the theaters. Honestly, martial arts movies, or basically most action flicks rarely appeal to me, so the same goes for this one. The plot sounds boring and typical...anyhow plot is secondary after all. Anything to get the star of the movie to show his moves right? Right. But I am curious if this movie will make Rain huge in Hollywood. Rain is a pretty popular actor/singer in Asia so it would be interesting to see if this would be his breakout role. Which leads me to notice one thing in the trailer so glaringly. You must have seen how Rain's character has a pretty scarred torso...yeah...how convenient his face is still pretty...untouched.

Out & About: DVDs ...theres tons of titles

DVDs

Tons of DVDs released the past week. I mean really how do these distributors release their titles? Do they even think and time their releases? Cause some weeks there are dry spells with only one title being released and weeks like the past with several titles. I would have thought they would spread out the release of titles a bit, just so their particular title would have a chance of being bought and wouldn't have to compete with like 5 other titles released by other competitors. Scheduling plays a part doesn't it? Just like with theatrical releases. Yeah...they should soo hire me.

Anyhow enough of that. What was released the past week you say? Here goes. First up there's Blood: The Last Vampire. Next there's Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell. Easy Virtue starring Jessica Biel and Mr Dorian Gray, Ben Barnes. Fighting with Channing Tatum. A remake of Wes Craven's movie of the same name, the Last House on the Left. Obsessed starring Beyonce and lastly there's another remake the Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. Told you there were lots of titles. Of all, I'd say Drag Me to Hell will sell best. Critically it was well received. Currently it has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Its supposed to be a really good fun horror flick...and it has a PG rating...so definitely a seller...what with Halloween around the corner, people will be looking out for a good horror new release.

Trailer Watch: The New Paranormal Activity Trailer

Like the title post says, a new trailer for Paranormal Activity has been released. I thought this was a better cut trailer, cutting out all those footage of audience reactions. At least now the trailer goes on the merits of the scenes from the movie that is shown, rather than you know, the "scared" reactions of the audiences. I'm still pretty skeptical on how good this movie is and that its even scary, so I'll be looking out for this one. It opens on 19 November in Singapore.

Out & About: DVDs, The Brothers Bloom

DVDs

Its been a boring week, its seems that we only have one title worth mentioning, The Brothers Bloom, Rian Johnson's feature after Brick.I liked Brick...heard the Brothers Bloom was pretty good too so I'm definitely planning to catch this at some point. And I love the movie's poster (above). Very retro.

Trailer Watch: Paranormal Activity

I keep seeing stuff about this movie on the various movie blogs and sites. But I've never gone past reading the title post. Something about it being touted as the new Blair Witch Project? Really? Now I haven't even seen Blair Witch Project...I should really get to that. Anyhow I finally checked out the trailer for the movie (no release date for Singapore yet), since its supposed to be a real scare. Check out the trailer below.

Not impressed by the trailer. Its nothing more than showing audiences reaction to the movie itself (scratching its own back ain't it?) with a few scenes of the movie in between. Sure the audiences look freaked most of the time...which kinda screams the movie is scary...but how about showing more of the actual scenes rather than audiences faces...yeah its a ploy for us to see the actual movie to see why those folks are soo scared. But hey its rating on RottenTomatoes.com is a whopping 93% ... now I definitely want to see whats the fuss.

Out & About: DVDs and USB Flash Drives

DVDs

Out the past week, Angels & Demons ...wait is this the sequel or prequel to the Da Vinci Code? I was never interested in the Da Vinci, the same goes for this. Next there's Dance, Subaru, a dance flick from Japan. The Horsemen a movie that theatrically just came and went. And lastly there was Veronica Mars season 2, never really got a chance to catch the series during its local tv run, then again I was never really into stories about teenage sleuths.

USB Flash Drive

Back in July I had made a post (read here) on Star Wars and Twilight USB Flash Drive, which I found out recently that local toy store, Simply Toys is importing. Their stock is said to come in October, you can view their post here. But now Funko has updated the Twilight USB Flash Drive into the New Moon USB Flash Drive that even has the soundtrack in it...cool right. This will also be available at their store, its now up for pre-order. Click here to see. I'm curious as Simply Toys are importing the Twilight USB Flash Drive, are they bringing the Twilight dolls and figures to their stores anytime soon too?

Posters Galore / Trailer Watch : Dare

Its the first poster for Dare. They're probably not gunning for a second one anyway. Now the three screen stills at the bottom...they're giving off a Dreamers vibe...I think.

Emmy Rossum ("The Day After Tomorrow"), Zach Gilford (TV's "Friday Night Lights") and Ashley Springer ("Teeth") head up a stellar cast including Ana Gasteyer ("Mean Girls"), Rooney Mara ("A Nightmare on Elm Street"), comedienne Sandra Bernhard (TV's "Roseanne") and Alan Cumming ("X2: X-Men United") in this captivating story of high school seniors at the crossroads of their adult lives. When a pompous actor tells good girl Alexa (Rossum) that she hasn’t lived, she embarks on a bold journey that takes her to mysterious bad boy Johnny (Gilford). Envious, her shy best friend Ben (Springer) also dares to pursue Johnny, complicating Alexa's romance and pushing the boundaries among the three friends.- ComingSoon.net

I'm catching up with some of the trailers that's been released recently... and some not so recently and one of those is Dare. Heard about this little flick when it made its Sundance round early this year. It still hadn't had a trailer cut then...and well now we have one. It does kinda look like another movie about high school laden with 20 somethings playing teenagers who no longer look like teens. But the story does look interesting, the odd relationship, the leads are about to embark on...I sense a hint of dark humour in it? Now I doubt the movie will make its way here theatrically, so I'll catch it on a rental.
