New Moon Book Cover with Bella and Jacob

*cringe*

This is suppose to be the book cover for the movie tie-in that Little Brown recently revealed. And its bad its bad. Its soo cheesy. You know what it reminds me off...bad romance novels...of course many would argue that it is...but its one I actually like...maybe because it has other worldly creatures?

Anyhow...yeah its bad...no wait...it looks more like the cover of bad 80's or 90's teen romance novels. And its not just because its corny as a whole...I don't even like the way they had the characters posed. If you've read the book you would know. Jacob and Bella were never like that towards each other in New Moon. They were close, yes. But as friends. Sure Jacob wanted more but Bella was still obsessed with Edward. Things never got that touchy touchy. I'm not liking that they're over sexualising things with the cover...they overselling it...its overkill...its horrendous. I hope this does not become the movie poster too.

Twilight Barbie Dolls

I just saw a pic of the Twilight Barbie dolls at Twilight Lexicon (see a bigger picture of it here). Its not really a good image but we get a picture of how it looks like, hopefully we get more soon.

I'm going to try and get this regardless...but a few things... Edward is so colourless...he kinda looks like Spock...but without the pointy ears. And come on...get Bella and Edward in some other clothes...This is the third doll that has Edward in that same coat. They wore other clothes in the movie too you know.

And yes get the other characters made too. We saw an Alice Neca figure but its not in stores yet, and Tonner Dolls has said that they will make the other characters but we've seen nothing thus far.

First Look at Rachel Hurd-Wood as Sybil Vane

Momentum Pictures has the first picture of Rachel Hurd-Wood as Sybil Vane on their website...I'm doubtful that the brown haired girl in the picture (the picture on Momentum Pictures website) below hers is her...I'm guessing it could be Rebecca Hall.Anyhow I've always though Rachel Hurd-Wood would be great as Sybil Vane at least in terms of looks. She's both young and beautiful with the perfect naivety and vulnerability look about her.

The only other person I've seen as Sybil Vane was Angela Lansbury in the 1946 adaptation...which I did not particularly like. Neither did I like Angela Lansbury's potrayal of Sybil Vane. Even though she was in her early 20's she looks much too old and mature for the role. And she sang this song about a bird or something when Dorian first came to see her show...yeah horrible...wasn't she suppose to play a Shakespeare play? Wasn't she Juliet when Dorian first saw her. I hope we'll get to see that in this new adaptation.

New DVD Titles Released In Singapore (Jun 15-21)

We've got a bunch of DVD releases out this week...no big movies though. Certainly nothing that I've been really anticipating.

Fired Up

Yeah its the movie with the big FU that caught your eye. It basically about this two guys who decided to instead of going to football camp and hang out with a bunch of guys...why not go to cheerleading camp and cozy up with some good looking girls. The competitive cheerleading part reminds me of Bring it On. I think it looks like a decent enough teen comedy...I might...might just rent it.

Killshot

A family goes under a witness protection program and then later becomes a target...or somewhere along that line...Err...I'll pass.

New In Town

Romantic comedies are not my thing. And I do hate the cliches that you kinda get from the movie. Big city girl move to small country town. She hates it at first. But typically... small country town has good traditional wholesome values that warms into her heart and its no soo bad after all. Hmm...yeah...I'll watch when I'll have nothing else to watch.

St. Trinian's

A comedy about a bunch of anarchic young ladies at St. Trinian's, an all girls school. Saw the trailer for it and its looks rather crazy and over the top. But I'm curious about it, its actually a revamp of some movies back in the 60's or so which in turn was based on some British cartoons.

The Unborn

The trailer didn't look too good and thoroughly confusing. They seem to throw soo many reasons why this supernatural thing is happening to her.Like issit her dead unborn twin trying to possess her? Because that would be whacked...and why now? Reviews for this have not been great. The only reason why I want to watch it is to know why she is being haunted.

DVD Predictions

1. New In Town
2. The Unborn
3. Killshot
4. Fired Up
5. St. Trinian's

New in Town at number one cause its a romantic comedy with a big name star. I see the Unborn getting a second place because, people in Singapore love the horror genre...and if I'm not mistaken the DVD released here has a cover art that features the poster with the female lead in her underwear...so yeah...I think that will help sell it. Killshot slipping in third, Fired Up fourth and last St. Trinian's...because come on...who here in Singapore has heard of St. Trinian's? I'm probably one of the few.

Trailer Watch: Zombieland

Ok...so the first thing I thought when I heard about this movie...Shaun of the Dead?...of course I've never actually watched Shaun of the Dead...but it sure seems similar...whatwith it being a comedy with zombies.

The trailer, I like it. Its looks like the movie is going to be a lot of fun...with hopefully a decent amount of laughs in store...That guy Jesse Eisenberg...he doesn't look like as if he's grown since I last saw him in the Squid and the Whale a few years ago...and a quick search reveals that he's actually 25...yeah...I know! He looks 18 doesn't he?

So now I'm wondering when will we see the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies film adaptation? The Bennet girls in their empire dresses fighting zombies...oh what a sight that would be! Word is the book has already been snapped up by a film company...which? Who knows?...But I guess we'll see it very soon.

A Film Adaptation of The Mortal Instruments

Yeah...looks like we're going to have another film adaptation of a YA novel(read about it here). This time its The Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare. Once again I have not read the book...I'm not exactly their target audience you know...Anyway...did check out its wikipedia page...since I know nothing about the actual story...and what can I say...its plot sounds pretty fantastical what with angels and demons and creatures like vampires, werewolves, warlocks and so on. How will that translate on screen? Err...I don't see it being a hit like Twilight...and with the number of creatures involve in this one...I'd imagined a big big budget would be required...to make the world at all believable.

Posters Galore: The Time Traveler's Wife

Never read the book. I understand its trailer was also recently released...which I also have not watch. Anyhow just wanted to comment on the poster. I think its pretty...pretty. Very clear and sharp...a very good shot of the actors and it does not look horribly photoshopped like most of the pictures we've been seeing lately. You know what...I kinda think it looks like a print ad...that's usually splashed in beauty magazines...yeah...like a print ad for some perfume. Don't you think?

Trailer Watch: Whiteout

ComingSoon.net has the plot summary for the movie as:

Carrie Stetko, the lone U.S. Marshal assigned to Antarctica, is investigating the continent's first murder, which draws her into a shocking mystery. Now, with only three days until winter, Carrie must solve the crime before Antarctica is plunged into darkness and she is stranded with the killer.

I think it has an interesting premise. We've seen the long dark winter thing in 30 Days of Night...that one with vampires and this, a killer on the loose. And both of them are adapted from graphic novels too. No idea which came out first though? Now I myself have been trying to get a copy of Whiteout for a while now...especially after that iFanboy episode I saw...though am having trouble finding it ...

Anyhow...the trailer is finally out. I think it looks good. Liked the intro to the environment...which was about 2/3 of the trailer. They certainly took their time to emphasize the nature of the land...Antarctica is an unforgiving terrain...its not a land man would naturally venture...I'm guessing most that are there are scientist? And so yes...we do get the urgency for Carrie to solve the crime...even without the sky being dark for months. And hey I even like the title card...the words emerging from a blizzard. So yeah...I'm looking forward to this one. I understands its been pushed back several times...I hope the latest date sticks.

New Dorian Gray Pictures

Latemag.com has some new pictures of the Dorian Gray movie (which you can check it out here).

The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favourite reads, so of course I'm really looking forward to this adaption. I've been following the developments of this movie for some time now...finally we have more pictures...

Gotta say, I'm loving the first pic they had posted (see above). Ben as Dorian sure looks quite the Gothic prince doesn't he? The dark clothes, the dark hair and that strong proud stance. And...yes we even get a sneak of the "picture" of Dorian Gray. Pretty much the very reflection of Ben Barnes. I wonder if he got to keep the painting after filming wrap...

But you know what... I still think Ben Barnes is a tad too old to play Dorian (especially in the close-ups)...nothing against him...for all we know he could play the role well. But physically...looks-wise he is too old. He's no longer the image of fresh glowing youth...is he? I wished they had gone with someone more unknown...literally a fresh face. Oh well...he's our Dorian for this one.

Now...when will we get to see the trailer?

Empire's Hidden Picture Game

I love hidden picture games. I've been posting a few I've found in the past, and currently Empire as in Empire Magazine has one over at their website. Out of 50 I've found...only 19...pretty bad. Anyhow head on over there and give it a try.

Random Thought: Season 2 of True Blood

Season 2 of True Blood premiered yesterday in the States. I'm jealous, when will we get it? You would think having cable TV, we would be able to get the show about the same time...but nope it will probably be months...

Kristen Stewart's Joan Jett Hairdo

I've seen various photos of her new hair style including this one I found on Flixster...yeah...I know, it might not be the final look but it already looks horrid doesn't it. I guess thats how its supposed to look. If you've seen pics of Joan Jett...she has like this 70's? Female version of the mullet. And thus thats why we have Kristen in that mess of a hair. I wonder if its a wig...or did they really snip snap her hair into that? If they did...then she might as well cut all that hair off after the shoot or get extensions.

I'm curious to see everyone else's transformation and of course the costuming.

New DVD Titles Released In Singapore (Jun 8-14)

Last week there was pretty much nothing new. And this week we have a bland serving of releases.

I'm going to do something extra this week by ranking the movies, among those released this week, in terms of my predictions, which will be the biggest seller after the first month of their release...with 1 of course being the biggest seller. So scroll down right to the bottom of this post to see my predictions.

Bottle Shock

I might have been released last week. Not quite sure...but I'll just dump it with this week releases. Never heard of the movie before. Flixster has the synopsis as "Bottle Shock explores the birth of California's Napa wine industry, and their triumph over the French at the 1976 Paris Tastings". Saw the trailer and it looks fairly interesting.

He's Just Not That Into You

Ahh the romantic comedy. Its usually something I pick up and watch to balance out the serious sad depressing dramas I've been watching.

Pink Panther 2

Was so not on my radar. I had thought it was released on dvd ages ago. Apparently not as it had just this week. Didn't watch it the first time around as I thought it looks like the type of comedy I would find stupid...the slapstick kind. And the second one looks just as stupid.

DVD Predictions

1. He's Just Not That Into You
2. Pink Panther 2
3. Bottle Shock

People are a sucker for romantic comedies, and with big name stars He's Just Not That Into You will easily sell the best. Most have a better tolerance for slapstick comedies so Pink Panther 2 will slip into number 2 and Bottle Shock, no surprise will be last...its a movie about wine, with no star power and it has an NC-16 rating...it has everything working against it.

100 Best Movie Lines in 200 Seconds

Its what the title suggests. Liquid Generator has made a video montage of the 100 best movie Lines in 200 seconds. I love video montages of movies. I know people like to just skip past them during the Oscars...but I like movies so I like montages that show the best that had come out for the year.

It does seem to feature a lot of the lines that's in AFI's 100 Movie Quotes.

But the Gladiator line...thats not exactly the most memorable in the film... wasn't "At my signal, unleash hell. " more so?

How about "O Captain, my Captain" and "Carpe, carpe diem" in Dead Poets Society?

The Jetsons Movie?

Word is its been in the works for awhile now. And currently its slated for a 2012 release. You can read it here, and the stuff about a movie has even made it to the wikipedia page (here). And guess who is said to be helming it? Robert Rodriguez. Yep...and its to be a live action film too.

As a kid, The Flinstones and The Jetsons were my favourite shows to watch...oh and the 90's X-men series as well. Never did mind watching an episode again and again...they were after all in constant reruns on Cartoon Network. Funny how its about families living way back in the past and in the future...maybe the present wasn't all that great? Anyhow the Flinstones had two live action films...and they were...err...not good...the second was worst. I'm thinking there's a chance that the Jetsons could be fun. Futuristic movies have always held people's interest. Mostly we have seen the action based or dystopian future movies...maybe its time we see a fun adventure (family friendly?) flick? The costumes would certainly be something to watch won't it?

Dakota Fanning as Jane in New Moon

There has been some pictures of Dakota Fanning in costume as Jane in New Moon online for awhile now. You can see a few of them here.

Hmm...the costume...I think, I've said before, I can't quite remember how the Volturri were said to be dressed. Maybe it wasn't even described? At least maybe in New Moon, cause I have yet to read the others. Anyhow, I kinda think the costume for Jane does look very goth here...very 1880's...Lemony Snicket's maybe?

With the physical description of Jane being petite and angelic looking...I kinda had imagined her to be made up to be more like the Childlike Empress in the Neverending Story. But thats just me.

Random Thought: Miniseries Used To Be Shown on Arts Central

I remember notably watching Nicholas Nickleby on the old Arts Central, which I love love love. And I think they had also aired the widely loved Pride and Prejudice that starred Colin Firth, which I had unfortunately missed and had only watched much later on rental. And another one, featuring Cillian Murphy...what was it?? Ahh...yes Anthony Trollope's The Way We Live Now. I love watching these period miniseries. The BBC has had some pretty well received miniseries recently like Bleak House and Jane Eyre and I had hoped to watch them on the local channel. Now that Vasatham has its own stand alone channel, and Kids Central and Arts Central morphing into Okto...With more available time slots I wonder why they no longer show such series...In fact Okto has pretty much been a disappointment. I'm no longer keen on the flicks they've been showing for their FilmArt slot too...none seems to hold my interest. Pity, I had hoped when Okto was launched they would bring more interesting shows...

The Vampire Diaries - Extended Preview

The new Vampire Diaries extended preview clip can be found on youtube. And its great. Seeing that the clip is brought to us by CW themselves, the clip is of very good quality...very very clear. And also because it is a very generous preview of slightly more than 5 minutes, that gives us more insight on the story and the characters.

I thought the show looks pretty good...its been a while since there was a teen supernatural drama right? In the past there was...Buffy...Roswell...so this those look like it could be a fun watch. Now I'm not familiar with the books at all, so I have no idea if Paul Wesley's portrayal of Stefan is loyal to the book series...but I thought he pulled it off rather well as the brooding new guy/vampire in town. He certainly has better delivery doesn't he?

Trailer Watch: The Twilight Saga's New Moon

Yes its here its here. Its rather short though so I'm guessing this is the teaser. Anyhow...check it out now.

Ok so how was it?

The trailer starts of with a kiss...a proclamation of love...and the birthday scene, where Bella gets a paper cut from unwrapping a gift. I know! How do you get a paper cut from wrapping paper? Really...its those papers that are fresh off the printers and photocopier machines that give you cuts...the heat makes them lethal...so I could never figure our the wrapping paper bit. So anyway because of that cut...because she bled...Jasper jumps on her...and whoosh...Edward pushes him away and saves Bella once again. But then of course because of this little incident, Edward concludes that his family and himself too dangerous for Bella. After telling Bella this in the middle of the forest he (Looks like Rob still needs a lot of work in the acting department) leaves her crumbling on the forest floor...slipping into depression and once again a magnet for danger as Laurent soon starts to taunt her. Ahh Laurent...he does look little paler this time doesn't he...his eyes redder...hungrier I suppose without the bread winner James? But alas...out comes Jacob...wow has he grown up and worked out...to save our dear Bella...and yes we get to see him transform...morph into a werewolf. And yes...I'm rather surprise we get to see that and you know what it isn't that bad...the CGI wasn't bad at all. Only thing is that his werewolf self, wasn't quite as menacing I thought or wanted him to look. Sure he was snarling and showed his fangs...but he's a cute big brown dog.

Pretty good stuff thus far...I still want to see the Volturri...we need some bad ass vamps don't we. When I was reading New Moon...I did get a vibe of the Underworld coven about the Volturri. And with Michael Sheen a part of this too...maybe eh... Though maybe not as dark and menacing...and yet the Volturri does seem to be more powerful with their mostly unknown powers...

Can't wait to see more.
