I was surprised shocked…when I saw this news on E News yesterday night…or was it the day before? Anyhow Dakota Fanning is after all…like the biggest child actor of our time…and she’s supposedly in talks to do New Moon…which could only escalate New Moon’s buzz factor right? Next question I asked myself…what role is she supposed to play, because the E News episode I watched did not mention any roles. It took me a while…a pretty long while, before I thought duhhh…It has to be Jane. Who else could it be? Jane (Read Jane's character profile here) is suppose to be this young petite teenage girl and Dakota’s pretty ethereal looking to be a vampire…Not since Interview with the Vampire have we seen a major iconic child vampire character on our screens. But wait a minute…although I haven’t read Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, I understand Jane also make appearances in those…and Dakota still being a kid…who is growing…her growth would be blatantly obvious…Jane is a Vampire remember!…She doesn’t grow older…period…I’m not against Dakota playing Jane…I think it’ll be interesting to see her in that role. But if they are going to have the character appear in the rest of the movies I would also think it be safer to cast a young looking 18-20 plus actress…whose growth spurt has slowed down and who wouldn’t actually be growing up in front of the screens...But anyway, for now it does seem true that Summit is considering her…Dakota herself has confirmed that she is in talks for the role. I'm not crazy about the idea. I <3 Dakota TONS, but I think it'll just make the Twilight series even YOUNGER- for younger audiences, which really excludes a HUGE older woman audience (I'm not old- only 25, but still!) I think they can find someone.. even if she IS young, less high-profile...

I kinda have a different view on it. I don't think getting Dakota to play Jane makes the Twilight series even younger - for younger audiences, as you have said. Dakota has done lots of movies...and half of them are not targeted towards kids at all...and I don't see her as having a big kids/tween/teen following...most kids would not even have seen her movies. I would imagine bringing someone like Vanessa Hudgens and Jordin Sparks (both of whom has been linked to New Moon)or and of the other Disney brood, would make Twilight younger...they definitely would bring in the legions of the tween girl fans along.
