Podcast Spotlight: iFanboy
If you love comic books you would love the iFanboy podcasts. iFanboy has two podcast. The first is the audio Pick of the Week podcast while the other is the iFanboy video podcast. Basically their podcasts are of course comic book related, discussing a new topic each week, giving recommendations or reviewing some of the comics they have read.
How did I discover the iFanboy podcasts? It was in July last year around the time of the San Diego Comic Con. I was looking for pictures or videos of the scene at Comic Con (a lot of movies have started to participate in Comic Con..its now a major marketing platform), and as I typed search on iTunes, iFanboy was one of the podcasts that came out. They had some mini podcast episodes on Comic Con...previews on what can be expected at Comic Con, the actual scene on the ground, the reactions to the things at Comic Con...they even scored a small interview with Stan Lee which was pretty cool...then again for them...this might have been the norm...they probably always get to interview comic book artists/writers.
Since I'm more of a movie fan than a comic fan, so far I've checked out only more of the movie related podcasts. In fact the only comic book/graphic novel I've read is V for Vendetta. I do have Watchmen which I have yet to read, but will before I watch the movie, and I've just borrowed Perspolis. Anyhow...I've recently checked out one of their movie related podcast, iFanboy video podcast Episode 96 - Comics from Movies...which I thought should have been titled Movies from Comics because the movies they talked about were adapted from comic books not the other way around as their title might imply. Anyway, it was a very good podcast. Its basically three guys sitting in someone's living room talking about comics and for this one they talked about six Graphic novels Whiteout, The Crow, American Splendor, Ghost World, Road to Perdition and History of Violence. They had all of the books in front of them and we actually get a peek inside each book, as they talked about them, on a slide of somewhat along with the basics like who its by, when it was published and how much its going for ($) now. For someone who doesn't know a whole lot about comics I thought the podcast was very informative along with bits of their own opinion of the books as well... and humour. Overall I liked it...entertaining and very well produced. Like I said if you love comics...you'll probably like this. And you know what...I might just try and check out Whiteout before the movie comes out.
