Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I gets a release date

According to ComingSoon.net Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I is set to release on November 19 2010. Cool! I think most Harry Potter fans are glad that the final movie will be released in two parts...right? Cause this could only mean more of whats on print could end up on screen. Great! Meanwhile we have the Half Blood Prince to look forward to...coming to screens on November 21 2008.

La Vie En Rose (2007)

I really had little idea who Edith Piaf was prior to having heard of this movie. Apparently she sang La Vie En Rose. That's at least a song I've heard off...soo that's cool. And Marion Cotillard actually won a Best Actress Oscar playing Edith Piaf in this biopic...so I thought...I have to check it out...I usually try to check out these Oscar flicks just to see what the big deal is.

Hmm...I don't really watch biopics. Let me try to remember...what was the last one that I've watched...A Beautiful Mind? That was like 4 years ago? Another Oscar winner. And I did not enjoy it at all. Wait ...there was the Aviator too...another Oscar alumni...nope did not like it too. Well surprise surprise...neither did I enjoy La Vie En Rose.

It was a pretty dull flick. From the flick...Edith Piaf did not seem to be much of an interesting character ... I was not pulled into the story at all. She was neither charming nor hateful enough to watch and love or despise. Sadly though, she seemed incredibly unattractive and annoying...she was very loud and unpolished...something like Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion but without the comedy...and very diva like. Sure she had the usual artist's tragic life but that does not immediately make it into a fascinating movie...because this is not. I was pretty bored. What's fascinating though was Marion Cotillard transformation into this character...pretty amazing. That's pretty much it.

Non Movie Related Commercials On Your Dvd.

Ok...you know how when you watch movies at the theaters there's always a series of commercials that's played before the movie is screened. Well thats normal right? Its for the cinema to make some quick advertisers money while giving a little time space for the late comers to come in. I think thats quite understandable and forgivable.

But here's whats not. What if there were commercials before the dvd's interactive menu comes up? And I'm not talking about those anti piracy commercials and movie trailers here...cause that would be movie related. And understandable. Plus I like watching trailers. No.... I'm talking about totally non movie related...thrown in for the advertisers buck.

I was rather peeved to have encountered this on two dvds. I did not expect to see random commercials on a dvd...Would you?....tsk tsk. One was a family drama movie that featured a car advertisement...and the other a movie about toys that featured an advertisement of an upcoming music cd or concert? (Who knows what it was, I wasn't paying attention to the crap they were trying to sell) Oh dear... I've never seen any dvd in such sadder state than these two...one might have thought one was watching a pirated dvd filmed in a theater where the idiot filmed the commercials too...It was rather pathetic really. Seriously the people who would have watched these movies would not really be these advertisements target audiences and would not have expected to see these commercials in the first place...and by still squeezing them in to earn the buck...makes the dvd look . Cheap. Maybe I'm being harsh. But imagine buying a novel that had car advetisements or a cd that had insurance advertisements...totally unrelated... See.

The Dust Factory (2004)

***Spoilers***

Wow...its been a long time since I wrote one of these little review things...doesn't mean I've stopped watching movies...just that I've been lazy to write. So lets start off with this one, The Dust Factory.

I think I have rented this movie like twice before...and yet have never managed to actually watch it...and now I know why...somehow I knew I wasn't going to like it. Its suppose to be kids movie... that has a 'deep' storyline about coping with fear...death...loss...and whatever crap life can throw at you with of course some fantasy elements intertwined...as the trend has been for a while now..except that I don't think this was done very well...as compared to others.

Now the story itself was a bit boring and draggy. So the protagonist,Ryan, is traumatized after seeing his dad die and has now chosen to be silent...now that sounds like something good to build on right? But...nothing good came. So anyway the kid almost drowns...and escapes to this fantasy world...meets his Alzheimer stricken grandfather and a girl who skates on water. In this freakish little world, there's like the circus tent, complete with the circus people...ring master and all. And so here's the deal...When they're ready they're suppose to jump off the trapeze. If they get to they other side...they die...or something...if they fall and hits the dust...they get to the real world... I kinda think the metaphor they're using is kinda weird. You fall you live...you catch you die...Hmm. I dunno...I just find its just a bunch of stuff thrown in the mix to make it very very deep...only that its not. The fantasy stuff is weird...the ringmaster was weird...he just looks kinda like a guy in costume at a kids party or something...and oh...the special effects...wasn't particularly good...things look cheap and cartoony. I understand that it must be a small budget film...well then be selective on the stuff on the screenplay that actually gets on the movie...right? The acting it was so-so. There has been better.

But most of all I say its just the story that makes the film a drag...like I said it just doesn't give anything...What do they learn? What is the point of learning anything is whatever they experienced at this 'dust factory' they would forget. And who was this girl Mel that the kid met? Why was she the only one there? Should there be other people trapped between life and death that Ryan would have met...talked too...other than the circus people. Was this 'dust factory' exclusive to them...if so Ryan didn't seem to know Mel....so why would she appear in his fantasy world.

Well this little review seemed to have become a little long. Enough said...I did not enjoy this little flick.

Behind the Scenes Video of Twilight movie

Twilight fans rejoice. ETonline.com has posted a behind the scenes video of the Twilight movie which you can view here. We get to see some of the action sequences and interviews with some of the cast...Kirsten Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Nikki Reed. Nikki Reed as you know has gone blond for this film. They surprisingly did a pretty good hair colour job on her...it's looks pretty natural looking from the interview. The video itself is not very long...but things looks cool so far. Looking forward to the flick... :)

Natalie Portman as Catherine Earnshaw in a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights

You can read the post on WorstPreviews.com here.

Cool. I have been wanting to read and watch the 1939 version with Merle Oberon as Earnshaw and Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff for a while now. I've done neither though. But the movie is in my movie queue. I do think it fairly quick of them to come up with a new version especially since the last 1992 version starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche didn't fair too well. Oh well...I like watching different adaptations...and Natalie is a good actress...so everything's cool. Now I should pick up a copy of the book before catching the flicks.

Mandy Lane pushed back to August

I've been hearing about this flick since like last year. It has been getting several release dates and once again have been pushed back...you can read it at ShockTillYouDrop.com here. Its now supposedly to get a release in August. Lets see if that happens.

Another X-Men movie? Hmmm...

I was reading this post at WorstPreviews here that was basically about how unlikely there was going to be an X-Men 4. Here's my two cents opinion.I agree with Shawn Ashmore. With the X-Men Origins series of movies in the works...we will not see a sequel in at least 5 years...maybe more...tats if it were to happen. If it did...Ashmore would be much too old to be Iceman...a new actor would take his place...In fact...we will most likely see a whole new bunch of actors as the characters. And seriously...X-Men 3 wasn't all that great...it had too big of a story 2 fit in a less than 2 hour flick. If they're continuing the story as it was left off ... they have to work hard to get it together. As far as blockbusters go it was an entertaining flick but I'd say the only really good thing about it was that we got to see more of the X-Men characters. Honestly I don't have much expectations for the Origins too...Though I think its cool we finally get to see some of
the characters come to life...like Gambit...finally don't ya think....Same with X-Men 4, if and when it gets released. :)
