Trailer Watch: Sleepwalking with Charlize Theron, Anna Sophia Robb and Nick Stahl

Sleepwalking is one of the movies I had in my Movies I Wanna watch in 2008 list. And well the trailer has finally been released...check it out below.

Now the plot summary that was provided in most of the movie sites about this flick were pretty minimal...something about how a young girl (Anna Sophia Robb) copes with her mother's (Charlize Theron) abandonment...so I pretty much thought she was struggling to survive and navigate through this world alone...which had a White Oleander sound to it. But with the trailer now out...we know more of the story...apparently with the mother gone, her real uncle (Nick Stahl) takes her under his care (at least she still has someone who cares right) and they go off to visit his father (Dennis Hopper), her grandfather, who he has a rather strained relationship with. The story looks more complex than what the initial plot summary provided us with. Thats pretty much what we got off from the trailer anyway. So will the mother come back...and if she does...will the daughter forgive her?

I thought the trailer looks fine. Thankfully they didn't have the cheesy voiceovers. And the story sounds interesting enough. It does have some capable actors in it too...Could be a good drama. Wait and see.

Enjoy the trailer for now.

2008 Sundance Film Festival Winners

Sundance Film Festival is coming to a close...and the winners have been announced. Some of the films that won were, Frozen River, American Teen, The Wackness, Man on Wire and Choke...yes that Choke. Truthfully I haven't really been reading much about the 2008 Sundance Film Festival...nor actually know much of the films that won or that were premiering...But one I did know off is Choke and I think its cool that Choke won something.

So go on to the Sundance site here to check out the rest of the winners or to know more about the films themselves click here.

Paris, je t'aime (2006)

This much about the film was what I knew before I had a chance to watch it. That it was a film made out of 18 short films directed by some famed international directors. All the stories would take place in Paris and they all had a similar theme...Love. The film as a whole also stars some famous names...let me see there's Natalie Portman, Nick Nolte, Gene Rowlands, Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Elijah Wood...just to name a few. That much I knew.

This much I did not know though. I was somehow under the impression that the short films were connected, intertwined...that the characters had some relation to each other that in the end they would all meet each other. I had thought that it was a bit like Love Actually but of course with a bit more artsy and international feel to everything and with more stories and characters which of course pose a greater challenge to connect all the stories together. Which was why I wanted to watch this little film in the first place. Cause if it had manage to overcome this little feat of seamlessly intertwining 18 stories together than it would indeed be great. But I guess I got the wrong impression. Other than the little scene in the end where about 3 or so characters saw each other...the stories are not connected. They were just that...18 short films with the same theme...love. One thing I can say is that I pretty much never get to see any short films...and because of Paris, je t'aime, I got to see 18.

So how did I find Paris, je t'aime...the short films that its made of. Its not like I have anything to compare them to...but you know I quite like most of them actually. The stories of love indeed varies...There's a little bit of everything for everyone. From romance, drama to comedy. Some of the stories were very sad, some makes you wanna say aww... others were pretty funny and just wanna make you laugh. And others were just boring and draggy and makes you just wanna jump to the other short. The stories also touches on different types of love...husband and wife, love at first sight, parent and child, and between lovers...I thought it pretty much covers everything except love between siblings. The film throughout was pretty colourful...the shots too were pretty as one would expect. Paris was beautiful. I think pretty much the only complain I have is that none of the stories/characters are connected at all (or did I miss anything), which was quite a disappointment to me because sometimes its just felt a few short films with a similar theme just being bunched up into a feature thats all...no big deal, no real connection was established. But the short films on their own were pretty good...like I said I liked most of them. And I felt that it was a pity that they were all just shorts...cause I felt some could be something more...they had the beginnings of a feature film.

Anyhow the shorts that I liked were, MONTMARTRE (a chance meeting) , QUAIS DE SEINE (very sweet), TUILERIES (so very quirky), BASTILLE (sweet and heartbreaking...just when he found love again he lost it), TOUR EIFFEL (It was kinda weird at first...but it got me...it was definitely cute), QUERTIER DES ENFANTS ROUGES ( I wonder why he didn't come), PLACE DES FETES ( I wonder if she remembered him), QUARTIER DE LA MADELEINE (It was dark and hilarious...and the colours were soo different from the others...the first thing I thought...Elijah's in Sin City again), PERE-LACHAISE (sweet), FAUBOURG SAINT-DENIS (I liked the dialogue here) and 14TH ARRONDISSEMENT (charming, one about discovery)

And the one I truly did not get at all was PORTE DE CHOISY. I have no idea what love had to do with anything other than the word being thrown in here and there...for good measure.

Well that's it...my little thoughts on Paris, je t'aime.

"Thomas Listen. Listen. There are times when life calls out for a change. A transition. Like the seasons. Our spring was wonderful, but summer is over now and we missed out on autumn. And now all of a sudden, it's cold, so cold that everything is freezing over. Our love fell asleep, and the snow took it by surprise. But if you fall asleep in the snow, you don't feel death coming. Take care."

Sarah Michelle Gellar's Alice

The status on this Alice movie is rather confusing. Let me see...IMDB states the film status is still in pre-production but has its released date at July 2008. But then...I read a very recent post on WorstPreviews about how Sarah Michelle Gellar, who owns the film rights to the game, is still trying to develop it into a movie...to get it up and running. Of course initially, Sarah Michelle Gellar herself was set to play Alice, but as she herself has said, if the movie doesn't start working soon she maybe too old. Wonder who will be actual Alice? So basically what this means...its not likely we'll ever get to see it in 2008. :(

What Issit With Movies Getting Ugly DVD Cover Art?

I mean seriously why is it that a lot of movies are getting horribly ugly looking cover artworks for the dvd? Ones that look soo cheap...that makes it look like some horribly cheap B movie.
Below are some examples. The DVD cover artworks and their respective official theatrical posters are on the right.

Will you look at that. Their posters look perfectly fine. Here's a tip and question. Why not just use the posters for the DVD?

But no...Instead of using the quirky family tree poster for Fierce People...they used a blown up image of Donald Sutherland and a very air brushed Diane Lane...no doubt to help drive up sales with their stardom. And for Goya Ghosts...they rather have a very sad stunned image of Natalie Portman on its cover than its more artsy poster...why not just keep that...its is after all a movie about an artist and his muses plights.

They should really look into producing better DVD cover artworks...because a cheap looking one would seriously deter a lot of people from buying it unless one knows and is interested in the movie itself...Otherwise it just does not grab anyones attention...Well maybe its only me...but I don't think so.

Posters Galore: Possession

Was reading WorstPreviews.com today and saw that the poster for Possession has been released. Take a look.

So what do you think? I think the image of the guy's shadow splitting into two people is certainly fitting for the movie...But I dunno...I think they should have just left it at that and leave out the light image of Sarah Michelle Gellar in the background...but after all she is the star. They have to include her.

By the way this is also a movie which was included in my Movies I Wanna Watch in 2008.

Trailer Watch: Life Before Her Eyes

Life Before Her Eyes stars Uma Thurman, Evan Rachel Wood and Eva Amurri. And yes this movie got in the Movies I Wanna See in 2008 list. And if you don't know what's the film is about...here's a plot summary from ComingSoon.net to refresh you.

Plot Summary: Oscar-nominee Uma Thurman plays a suburban wife and mother who begins to question her seemingly perfect life and perhaps her sanity on the 15th anniversary of a tragic high school shooting that took the life of her best friend. In flashbacks, Diana is a vibrant high schooler (played by Evan Rachel Wood of "Thirteen" and "The Upside of Anger") who, with her shy best friend Maureen, plot typical teenage strategies, cutting class, fantasizing about boys and vow to leave their sleepy suburb at the first opportunity. The older Diana, however, is haunted by the increasingly strained relationship she had with Maureen as day of the school shooting approached. These memories disrupt the idyllic life she's now leading with her professor husband Paul and their young daughter Emma. As older Diana's life begins to unravel and younger Diana gets closer and closer to the fatal day, a deeper mystery slowly unravels.

The story sounds great right. Looks like it could be on of those intense emotional dramas as I've said before...and I just love the kind. Its also directed by the same guy who directed House of Sand and Fog which was brilliant and heartbreakingly tragic. I loved it. Though it did received a few Oscar nominations...I just feel that this film has been forgotten...slipped under a lot of peoples radar. I do hope more people will pick up the dvd and see House of Sand and Fog. I definitely recommend it.

Oops...I've wandered off...back to The Life Before Her Eyes. Yes...and so the trailer is out...Yay...that was quick...I mean I was talking about it earlier this week. The trailer looks good enough...though I wished we got to more of the little scenes other than...what do you call them the little quotes or narration thing which I thought the trailer could do without. Anyway we got to see scenes of old Diana and young Diana...even a tiny one of that life changing? fatal day. I'm soo looking forward to this. So please bring this little film to Singapore...or at least get the dvd release of this....

Now Enjoy the Trailer !!!

Movies I Wanna Watch in 2008

I know I should have made this list earlier...I meant to...but just never managed to finish. And well now it finally is. Now the list here probably won't include big movies that everyone else seem to be awaiting the release of like....Indiana Jones, Cloverfield, Speed Racer or James Bond. The thing is though I might watch them, I'm actually not particularly interested in them...now what gets on this list are my picks....the ones I want to watch. So here goes.

1. The Orphanage

Plot Summary: "The Orphanage," presented by Oscar-Nominee Guillermo del Toro, centers on a Laura (Belén Rueda from "The Sea Inside") who purchases her beloved childhood orphanage with dreams of restoring and reopening the long abandoned facility as a place for disabled children. Once there, Laura discovers that the new environment awakens her son's imagination, but the ongoing fantasy games he plays with an invisible friend quickly turn into something more disturbing. Upon seeing her family increasingly threatened by the strange occurrences in the house, Laura looks to a group of parapsychologists for help in unraveling the mystery that has taken over the place.

Starring: Belén Rueda, Fernando Cayo, Geraldine Chaplin, Montserrat Carulla, Mabel Rivera, Andrés Gertrúdix

This movie may have opened elsewhere but it seems that it will only open 21 February 2008 in Singapore. I like ghost story scary flicks...one that has strong stories and great characters rather than just the usual scares relying everything on shock value. I loved the Sixth Sense, The Others and The Devil's Backbone...because they're more story and character driven and I hope that the Orphanage will join them as a league of exceptional ghost flicks. The trailer and the fact that it is presented by Guillermo del Toro makes it look promising.

2. 27 Dresses

Plot Summary: After serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young woman (Heigl) wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister's side as her sibling marries the man she's secretly in love with.

Starring: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Malin Akerman, Ed Burns, Melora Hardin, Judy Greer

Now I'm not a big fan of romantic comedies. But I saw the trailer of this...and it looks like a fun cute movie starring the pretty Katherine Heigl and the hunky James Marsden. And hey this could actually be a good rom-com. I'm up for it.

3. Teeth

Plot Summary: "Teeth" tells the story of High school student Dawn (Jess Weixler) works hard at suppressing her budding sexuality by being the local chastity group's most active participant. Her task is made even more difficult by her bad boy stepbrother Brad's (John Hensley) increasingly provocative behavior at home. A stranger to her own body, innocent Dawn discovers she has a toothed vagina when she becomes the object of violence. As she struggles to comprehend her anatomical uniqueness, Dawn experiences both the pitfalls and the power of being a living example of the vagina dentata myth.

Starring: Jess Weixler, John Hensley, Josh Pais, Hale Appleman, Ashley Springer, Vivienne Benesch, Lenny Von Dohlen, Nicole Swahn, Julia Garro, Adam Wagner

Initially when I first heard of it...not really having read anything much... I wasn't too interested in this little flick. I mean what is this vagina dentata myth anyway? (check it up yourself if you're curious)...then the trailer came out ....and it looked pretty ok...and then I read the film actually won something at Sundance...I think it was the Special Jury prize for Jess Weixler's (Dawn) performance...and its actually a horror comedy.Well now I'm pretty curious...this could be actually be good...or not...regardless I want to see it for myself.

4. Alice

Plot Summary: Years after her first experience in Wonderland, Alice (Gellar), now a disturbed young woman mourning the death of her parents, returns to the land of talking animals and the wicked Queen of Hearts. Based on the computer game "American McGee's Alice."

Starring: Sarah Michelle Gellar

Alice in Wonderland has never really been one of my favourite tales...I dunno...Its just weird and creepy... and twisted...But here's a movie about a grown up Alice? I'm always up for a modern retelling and this is actually based on a video game. It should be a very dark tale indeed. For now it has caught my attention...this could work...or not...lets wait for the trailers.

5. Malice in Sunderland

Plot Summary: A modern take on the classic fairytale, Alice in Wonderland, set in the North East of England.

Starring: Mischa Barton

Look another Alice movie...Not much info on this movie yet...other than Mischa Barton is playing the role of Alice. What issit with all this Alice movies?

6. Jumper

Plot Summary: A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them.

Starring: Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, Rachel Bilson, Jamie Bell, Max Thieriot, Shawn Roberts, AnnaSophia Robb

Ok so I don't like the trailer and the first poster too much (the second looks good though). But the action and teleportation sequences look cool enough...But what I really want to see is that fight/attack? scene between Samuel L Jackson and Hayden Christensen that we got a little peak of in the trailer...That just looks awesome!

7. August Rush

Plot Summary: A charismatic young Irish guitarist (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and a sheltered young cellist (Keri Russell) have a chance encounter one magical night above New York's Washington Square, but are soon torn apart, leaving in their wake an infant, orphaned by circumstance. Years later, performing on the streets of New York and cared for by a mysterious stranger (Robin Williams) who gives him the name August Rush, the child (Freddie Highmore) uses his remarkable musical talent to seek the parents from whom he was separated at birth.

Starring: Freddie Highmore, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Terrence Howard, Robin Williams

Its been a while since I've seen any music themed/oriented movie (and I don't mean musicals here) And this one seems pretty good. A mix of rock and classical. Freddy Highmore's a good child actor...and there's Keri Russell...pretty as always...we haven't seen her in a while have we...other then the those little roles in the Upside of Anger and Mission Impossible 3...oh wait there's that movie Waitress...that I soo want to see too.

8. Choke

Plot Summary: Victor Mancini (Rockwell) is a medical-school dropout who has devised an ingenious scam to pay elder care for his Alzheimer's-afflicted mother: he pretends to choke on pieces of food while dining in upscale restaurants. He then allows himself to be "saved" by fellow patrons who, feeling responsible for Victor's life, go on to send checks to support him. When he's not pulling this stunt, Victor cruises sexual addiction recovery workshops for action, visits his addled mom, and spends his days working at a colonial theme park.

Starring: Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston, Kelly Macdonald, Brad William Henke

Well I've read the book...what more reason would I have to watch this flick?...I almost always watch screen adaptations of the books I've read. Oh and there's the little fact that Fight Club turned out to be like oh...great. There just might be a slight chance...done well...this could be too.

9. Shutter

Plot Summary: In Tokyo, a young couple (Jackson and Taylor) on their honeymoon first begin to see ghostly images in their photos.

Starring: Joshua Jackson, Rachael Taylor

One of my favourite scary flicks is getting a remake...of course I want to watch it. With the remake coming out...there's all the more reason for those who haven't, to check out the original Thai movie.

10. The Dark Knight

Plot Summary: Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of lieutenant Jim Gordon and district attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as the Joker.

Starring: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman

Ok so I'm not a particularly a big fan of Batman...but I can't deny the slew of Joker posters that have been released looked amazing and so I actually want to see this. Is Heath Ledger's Joker any good?

11. The Other Boleyn Girl

Plot Summary: Based on the best selling novel by Philippa Gregory, "The Other Boleyn Girl" is an engrossing and sensual tale of intrigue, romance, and betrayal set against the backdrop of a defining moment in history. Two sisters, Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson) Boleyn, are driven by their ambitious father and uncle to advance the family's power and status by courting the affections of the King of England (Eric Bana). Leaving behind the simplicity of country life, the girls are thrust into the dangerous and thrilling world of court life – and what began as a bid to help their family develops into a ruthless rivalry between Anne and Mary for the love of the king.

Starring: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana, Kristin Scott Thomas, Mark Rylance, David Morrissey

Yes I've been waiting for this movie for quite some time now...and finally it will be released this year. I've said enough on this movie on my other posts...sooo...Let the rivalry begin!

12. April Fools Day

Plot Summary: When Muffy decides to invite her drama club to her isolated house for a "killer" weekend, nobody would have expected it to be taken so literally. Now the guest list is being trimmed and suspicions turn on each other.

Starring: Taylor Cole, Scout Taylor-Compton, Josh Henderson, Jennifer Siebel, Sabrina Aldridge

I had actually watch the original...and rather like it.Despite the title being so obvious...I still did not see the end coming...I know that's just stupid right? Oh well....so now there's a remake which I just happen to found out about and I want to see it. Should be fun eh?

13. Fanboys

Plot Summary: Four guys from the Midwest drive across the country to honor the wish of their dying friend: to watch "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace" at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch before the movie's worldwide release.

Starring: Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel, Kristen Bell, Carrie Fisher, Ray Park

Of course I want to watch this. Not only have I been hearing about this little flick for the longest time...its also about a bunch of kids in 1999 going to see Star Wars Episode 1...I mean I was a kid seeing Episode 1 way back in 1999 too...Aww memories flooding back...I'm hopeful that this will be good.

14. Sleepwalking

Plot Summary: The drama follows an 11-year-old girl's struggle to come to terms with her mother's abandonment.

Starring: Charlize Theron, Dennis Hopper, Woody Harrelson, Nick Stahl, AnnaSophia Robb

Looks like an interesting story and a bunch of good actors in it...could be good.

15. Assassination of a High School President/ The Sophomore

Plot Summary: At a Catholic high school, the popular girl (Barton) teams up with a sophomore newspaper reporter to investigate a case of stolen SAT exams. Once the duo target their suspects, a larger conspiracy is unearthed.

Starring: Reece Thompson, Mischa Barton, Bruce Willis, Michael Rappaport, Kathryn Morris, Melonie Diaz, Rumer Willis

I just recently read up the plot summary of this movie and I think it sounds incredibly interesting...the words A homage to "Chinatown" set in a Catholic high school, witty film noir, the most beautiful but devious girl in school, other darkly comedic characters...pretty much got me...this looks like something that I would actually like...I quite like Brick (modern film noir set in a high school)...but that was more serious drama stuff...while this looks like it could be a dark comedy. Cool! Can't wait to see the trailer!

16. Awake

Plot Summary: The story focuses on a man who suffers "Anesthetic Awareness" (An occurrence where during surgery where not enough anesthetic medication for the patient's body weight), and finds himself awake and aware, but paralyzed, during heart surgery. His wife must wrestle with her own demons as a drama unfolds around them.

Starring: Hayden Christensen, Jessica Alba, Lena Olin, Terrence Howard

I heard some pretty disappointing things about this film...like poor acting and so on...but the trailer just got me...I wanna know what happens. All in his head? Did he survive?....

17. The Duchess

Plot Summary: A chronicle of the life of 18th century aristocrat Georgiana, duchess of Devonshire, an ancestor of Princess Diana who was alternately celebrated and reviled for her extravagant political and personal lives.

Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Keira Knightley, Charlotte Rampling, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell

I know...the trailer was a bore but...I love costume/period flicks...and there's good actors like Keira Knightley and Ralp Fiennes...and pretty costumes to look at.

18. Middle of Nowhere

Plot Summary: An irresponsible mother blows her eldest daughter's college fund on her youngest daughter's modeling campaign.

Starring: Justin Chatwin, Susan Sarandon, Anton Yelchin, Willa Holland,
Eva Amurri

Not much information on this flick yet...no stills...no posters...no trailers...but I think the cast looks pretty good...there's Susan Sarandon and her real life daughter Eva Amurri who I last saw in Saved...then there's that kid in Fierce People and Alpha Dog, Anton Yelchin...the Dragonball guy too, Justin Chatwin, and Willa Holland who played Marissa's sister in the OC...pretty good ya. And of course the plot looks interesting...Could be another dark comedy? Sure looks like it has the making off...

19. The Eye

Plot Summary: The remake of the Hong Kong film "Jian Gui", a woman who receives an eye transplant that allows her to see into the supernatural world.

Starring: Jessica Alba, Parker Posey, Alessandro Nivola

Yep another remake here...once again I've never seen the original...so I think I'll start with the remake.

20. Penelope

Plot Summary: Described as a modern-day fable about a young woman named Penelope who suffers from a "curse" but sets out to end her life-long streak of bad luck and find her true self.

Starring: Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, Catherine O'Hara, Reese Witherspoon

This movie looks cute. Its like this magical fantasy storybook kinda comedy drama. Very quirky...very colourful too. Christina Ricci looks really sweet in it. And...it all reminds me a bit like Big Fish.

21. Tale of Two Sisters

Plot Summary: Based on a classic Korean folk tale infused with '70s British horror. The DreamWorks version centers on modern-day teenage sisters Anna and Alex Rydell who return home from a mental hospital only to find their recovery unraveling because of a cruel stepmother, clueless father and a lingering ghost.

Starring: Elizabeth Banks, David Strathairn, Arielle Kebbel, Emily Browning

Now I want to see this. I didn't like the original too much...so I'm really curious that maybe with all the changes they made (I mean they're bound to make some changes) I might actually like it.

22. Adventureland

Plot Summary: A comedy set in the summer of 1987 and centered around a recent college grad (Eisenberg) who takes a nowhere job at his local amusement park, only to find it's the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world.

Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Ryan Reynolds, Kristen Stewart, Martin Starr, Paige Howard

An amusement park as a setting...hmm...that definitely sounds interesting...potentially filled with a bunch of oddball quirky characters...And its suppose to set in the summer 1987...that sounds fun...we'll get to see 80's fashion...

23. Prom Night

Plot Summary: Donna's senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life. After surviving a horrible tragedy, she has finally moved on and is enjoying her last year of high school. Surrounded by her best friends, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns deadly, there is only one person who could be responsible... a man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer, and survive a night "to die for."

Starring: Brittany Snow, Scott Porter, Jessica Stroup, Dana Davis, Collins Pennie, Kelly Blatz, James Ransone, Brianne Davis, Johnathon Schaech, Idris Elba

The trailer reminds me soo much of 90's teen slasher flicks like....Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer...Should be fun eh?

24. Juno

Plot Summary: "Juno" stars Ellen Page as the title character, a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker (Cera). With the help of her hot best friend Leah (Thirlby), Juno finds her unborn child a "perfect" set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa (Bateman and Garner), longing to adopt. Luckily, Juno has the total support of her parents (Simmons and Janney) as she faces some tough decisions, flirts with adulthood and ultimately figures out where she belongs.

Starring: Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Allison Janney, J.K. Simmons, Olivia Thirlby, Rainn Wilson, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner

I soo wanna watch this...I mean this flick has received like rave reviews...And if you haven't check out the trailer...well you have too...its like...soo funny...with all these smart witty dialogue. Ellen Page, who you might remember from Hard Candy, plays this smart mouth pregnant teenage girl...and you can't believe the stuff that comes out her mouth...full of sarcasm and wit. I think this little flick will be as big or bigger than Little Miss Sunshine...bagging a few nominations and awards here and there. And finally finally it will be shown here. Can't Wait!

25. Bronte

Plot Summary: On the wet and wuthering moors of 19th century Yorkshire, the Bronte sisters emerge from the haven of their hidden fantasy worlds, from beneath the wing of their eccentric, domineering father and their beloved brother's drug-addled demise, to become history's most famous authors.

Starring: Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Scott Thomas, Geraldine Chaplin, Rebecca Hall, Joan Plowright

A costume period drama about some of the most famous female writers who happen to be sisters...I know this might spell boring to some...but this is typically the type of flick I actually like.

26. Possession

Plot Summary: A woman's life is thrown into chaos after a freak car accident sends her husband and brother-in-law into comas. Thrills arrive after the brother-in-law wakes up, thinking he's his brother.

Starring: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lee Pace, Michael Landes, Chelah Horsdal, William B. Davis

Another remake among a slew of remakes to be released this year. Now I've never watch the original movie...but I've watched the remake's trailer...and it looks interesting enough...and it does look like quite a thriller.

27. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Plot Summary: "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" is a comedy about two people thrust together for one hilarious, sleepless night of adventure in a world of mix tapes, late-night living, and, live, loud music. Nick (Michael Cera) frequents New York's indie rock scene nursing a broken heart and a vague ability to play the bass. Norah (Kat Dennings) is questioning pretty much all of her assumptions about the world. Though they have nothing in common except for their taste in music, their chance encounter leads to an all-night quest to find a legendary band's secret show and ends up becoming the first date in a romance that could change both their lives.

Starring: Michael Cera, Kat Dennings

I dunno why...but this movie just sounds like it could be really good. And sounds like it would have a wicked soundtrack too.

28. Life Before Her Eyes

Plot Summary: Based on the best-selling novel by Laura Kasischke, IN BLOOM is a dramatic thriller about Diana (Oscar-nominee Uma Thurman), a suburban wife and mother who begins to question her seemingly perfect life--and perhaps her sanity--on the 15th anniversary of a tragic high school shooting that took the life of her best friend. In flashbacks, Diana is a vibrant high schooler (played by Evan Rachel Wood of THIRTEEN and THE UPSIDE OF ANGER) who, with her shy best friend Maureen, plot typical teenage strategies--cutting class, fantasizing about boys--and vow to leave their sleepy suburb at the first opportunity.

Starring: Uma Thurman, Evan Rachel Wood, Eva Amurri

The story sounds really interesting...I believe this is one of those serious intense emotional dramas...I love the kind. Again this seem to have a great cast. Evan Rachel Wood has always excel in angst ridden teen roles. And I see that this movies has had good reviews so far on Imdb.com. Aww :( this flick is in limited release...lets hope it comes our way.

29. How to Lose Friends & Alienate People

Plot Summary: Sidney Young is a disillusioned intellectual who both adores and despises the world of celebrity, fame and glamour. His alternative magazine, Post Modern Review, pokes fun at the media obsessed stars and bucks trends, and so when Young is offered a job at the diametrically opposed conservative New York based Sharps magazine its something of a shock! It seems Sharps editor Clayton Harding is amused by Young's disruption of a post-BAFTA party with a pig posing as Babe. Thus begins Sidney's descent into success - his gradual move from derided outsider to confidante of starlet Sophie Maes - and a love affair with colleague Alison Olsen, that will either make him or break him.

Starring: Simon Pegg, Megan Fox, Kirsten Dunst, Gillian Anderson, Jeff Bridges

I just love that title...Doesn't it just grab you attention...And the story sounds pretty cool...and funny...

30. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Plot Summary: As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously "This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince" and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort's dark past.

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, David Bradley, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith

This is a no brainer.Of course I want to watch this...I've watched all the others...its only natural. And I just love the world of Harry Potter. Just love the magical world and Hogwarts...all those adventures...And all those interesting out of this world, larger than life characters.

31. Atonement

Plot Summary: The filmmakers of "Pride & Prejudice" reunite for a new movie, based on the award-winning best-selling 2002 novel Atonement, which is a classic British romance that spans several decades. Fledgling writer Briony Tallis, as a 13-year-old, irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister's ("Pride & Prejudice" Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley) lover (James McAvoy) of a crime he did not commit.

Starring: Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave, Brenda Blethyn

Ahh another film which I have posted a lot on. I had read the book and simply loved it and was soo excited when I heard they were making a film out of it...And its finally here...Yay...The trailers look great. And hey the flick has even won best picture at the Golden Globes...I say this could be a major Oscar contender here...Can't wait to see it.

32. Get Smart

Plot Summary: The bumbling secret agent, Maxwell Smart, and his level-headed female partner, Agent 99, battle against the evil forces of KAOS.

Starring: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Alan Arkin, Terence Stamp

I used to watch the reruns when I was a kid...Wow...that was a long time ago...and I still remember the shoe telephone...This should be fun.

33. Charlie Barlett

Plot Summary: Wealthy teenager Charlie Bartlett is failing miserably at fitting in at a new public high school run by the world-weary Principal Gardner. As he begins to better understand the social hierarchy, Charlie's honest charm and likability positions him as the resident "psychiatrist" dishing out advice, and the occasional prescription with his partner and fellow student, Murphy Bivens, to other students in need. Along the way, he decides to take some of his own advice, find romance, and learn to accept who he is, thus wielding a witty dark comedy about the angst-filled years before college.

Starring: Anton Yelchin, Robert Downey Jr., Hope Davis, Tyler Hilton, Jake Epstein, Lauren Collins, Dylan Taylor, Mark Rendall, Kat Dennings, Derek McGrath

A movie about some smart ass rich kid dishing out advice to his public school schoolmates...one of those filled with smart ass funny dialogues...just the type of flick I like to watch. And the trailer looks just great! And if you just saw it...there was this scene with Charlie lying on his back with his hands behind his head and wearing shades...that just so remind me of Ferris Buller's Day Off.

34. Genova

Plot Summary: A contemporary family ghost story in the vein of Don't Look Now mixed with the sexiness of Stealing Beauty. The exotic Italian town of Genova provides a fresh start for Joe (Colin Firth) and his two young daughters a family seeking new lives after the sudden death of their mother. Kelly, the 16 year old, explores the sexy and dangerous underbelly of this mysterious new world. While the youngest, Mary, has just seen the ghost of her mother wandering the streets. Acclaimed filmmaker Michael Winterbottom directs a poignant tale of
love and forgiveness.

Starring: Colin Firth, Catherine Keener, Willa Holland, Hope Davis, Perla Haney-Jardine

Seems like another ghost story here. A pretty good cast Colin Firth, Catherine Keener. Sounds like it could be a really good ghost/drama flick.

35. Twilight

Plot Summary: "Twilight," an adaptation of the novel that hatched Stephenie Meyer's bestselling young adult fantasy series, tells the story of 17-year-old Bella, who moves to a small town to live with her father, and is drawn to a pale mysterious classmate who comes from a family of vampires. Meyer has published two more installments of the series, "New Moon" and "Eclipse," with two more titles coming.

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson

A vampire flick... seems like a more romance drama type of vampire flick too...we haven't seen the type...a good one at that for a while...Let me see...a really great one was in 1994...none other than Interview for the Vampire for me. Now this movie could be a little more teen oriented...But I think they have got a pretty good cast and Kirsten Stewart has never really been in one of those cheesy teen flicks so I think that's a good sign...so I am looking forward to this.

36. All the Boys Love Mandy Lane

Plot Summary: A group of high schoolers invite Mandy Lane (Amber Heard), a good girl who became quite hot over the summer, to a weekend party on a secluded ranch. While the festivities rage on, the number of revelers begins to drop quite mysteriously.

Starring: Amber Heard, Anson Mount, Michael Welch, Aaron Himelstein, Edwin Hodge

The trailer has been available on net for quite some time already...and yet this little flick will only get a release this year. I'm a bit confused by the plot and the trailer though...I mean is the story supposed to be about Mandy the seemingly good girl who's actually bad?...or is this a flick about a creepy fellow out to get Mandy?

37. Darjeeling Limited

Plot Summary: Three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other -- to become brothers again like they used to be. Their "spiritual quest", however, veers rapidly off-course (due to events involving over-the-counter pain killers, Indian cough syrup, and pepper spray), and they eventually find themselves stranded alone in the middle of the desert with eleven suitcases, a printer, and a laminating machine. At this moment, a new, unplanned journey suddenly begins.

Starring: Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, Anjelica Huston

Wes Anderson's movie has always been those quirky eccentric type of movie where you either get it and totally loved it...or not get it and hated it...I did not get Rushmore...though I wouldn't say I hated it...but I got Royal Tenenbaums and loved it. And Darjeeling Limited after reading a little plot summary...I immediately wrote it off as one of his movie that I would not get
(I know that's horrible isn't it), would not find any humour, suffice to say not enjoy it at all. Then I saw a trailer of it on Tv...I've changed my mind...it actually looks really funny...I think I might get this one. Hopefully its another Royal Tenebaums for me.

38. The Bell Jar

Plot Summary: A screen dramatization of Silvia Plath's book "The Bell Jar".

Starring: Julia Stiles

Did you know that the first screen adaptation was released in 1979...yep...I've never seen it but its supposedly not very good. And they're actually making a new one..Can you believe it! And Julia Stiles will be playing Esther Greenwood. The Bell Jar is one of my favourite books...I know its a pretty hard book to adapt and there will be numerous critics...even now...I mean I for one don't think Julia Stiles is a horrible choice for Esther...she acts ok...I think she even has the right look...not too overly pretty...So anyway I would love to see a screen adaptation of it...even if it was terrible.

39. Paranoid Park

Plot Summary: A teenage skateboarder's life begins to fray after he is involved in the accidental death of a security guard.

Starring: Gabe Nevins, Daniel Liu, Taylor Momsen, Jake Miller, Lauren McKinney

I've seen the poster around and even heard the title pop up around here and there but it somehow never appealed enough for me to check it out any further...until about 2 days ago...when I finally saw the trailer...it got me...now I wanna watch this...I soo hope this flick gets a release here since its been pretty much getting a limited release everywhere else...

Source for Plot Summaries were ComingSoon.net, Flixster, Imdb.com, WorstPreviews.com

So thats it...the whole list...I know...39 is kinda an odd number right. I have yet to find a number 40. Oh well. So go on now. Check out the movies. Of course most of them have yet to released...duhhh...but click on the above links, do a search and check out their trailers yourself, some of them are already available. So Happy Viewing.

Any surprises? Not really is there...

I'm glad that Atonement won best picture....I had great expectations of it...it was after all adapted from one of the most excellent book ever (Its of course one my favourites :-) ). A pity its nominated actors won nothing for their performances.

Honestly though I didn't think that Sweeney Todd would win for Musical or Comedy...I kinda thought either Juno or Across the Universe would have won...Oh well...

New Choke Pictures.

Yep looks like several new shots of Choke have been released...including ones with Denny and Ida. And Victor and Denny in their work costumes.

Now the picture above is one of Victor and Paige...yes thats her in her white lab coat and black brain hair. I think they got her right. And Victor and Denny...I still think they look too old for the characters...maybe they up their ages?

So now head on to WorstPreviews to check out the rest of the pictures.

Posters Galore: Penelope and Step Up 2

I thought the first poster for Penelope was very very pretty...If I could I would want it up on my wall. Now this new one...just isn't great...it pretty much reads....we need to cash in on the actors names and faces.

Step Up 2...Omg...there's another one? Ok the poster looks cheap...and the girl in it kinda looks like Jessica Alba on the poster of Honey. You know...I actually thought the first Step Up was not half bad...then again I never actually really watched it truly...but the dance sequence at the end was great...I guess that's the thing with these Urban dance type of flicks...there's not much of a story...its pretty much just a dance showcase...with sexy outfits and hot moves...

Trailer Watch: Prom Night

Well the trailer has been released. Take a look yourself below.

It begins with the preparation...all the excitement...the kids look so happy. Prom finally arrives and it looks like it will be the night of their lives. They get their own rooms at the hotel. The party looks all fun...then the lights start to go out...some screaming here and there. The police seems to be on their way...some psycho was in a maximum security prison until 3 days ago...and looks like he will be going to the prom. I mean seriously....how easy issit to escape from prison? Maximum prison at that? And why did it take 3 days for the police to realise that he's heading to the prom and targeting this one girl? I mean I thought it was obvious to them that he is targeting her exacting some revenge or something right?

It has, it looks like...the typical teen slasher flick...very much like Scream at first glimpse without the prom part...or should I say Scream like Prom Night since Prom Night(the original) came first. Anyway...what are the similarities...they have the one girl that psycho has a vendetta against....he stalks her...along the way kill some of her friends...A few scares here and there...then the police officers ...always portrayed as stumbling incapable idiots. Of course slasher flicks always have that classic scene too where a character is hiding under the bed ...then sees someones shoes, assumes its the psycho, and he or she covers owns mouth stifling own scream. Yep.

And guess what...while I was looking for the remake's trailer on youtube...I actually found the original movie's trailer...I love looking at these retro trailer...fun ain't it...so take a peek below.

Ok so it isn't great...much worse than the remake's trailer...In fact I think it just about awful...maybe because the movie itself was that bad...I mean the voiceovers were horrible...and and it had the whole Saturday Night Fever look...Yes...can you believe that?...and the actors...they look soo old...for their characters...well that's just me...I know it kinda seems like I would never want to watch this...but actually...I'm pretty curious and want to see Prom Night (the remake of course)...it reminds me soo much of those 90's teen slasher flicks...

Robert Pattinson, Cedric Diggory of Harry Potter will star as Edward in Twilight

Looks like Robert Pattinson will play Edward in Twilight opposite Kirsten Stewart who's playing Bella. Well in case you have no idea who Robert Pattinson is....well here's a pic to remind you.

Yep he's the short lived Cedric Diggory of the Harry Potter movies...so what do you think?? Is he the right Edward?...Well I wouldn't know...I have yet to read the books...but what I can say is...though he has that pale skin (I guessing that's mandatory for a vamp...yes?) and that brooding good looks...I kinda think...he looks kinda old...to play a 16-17 year old... (the pics I posted are not recent ones...they are at least 2 years old)

Hmm...well anyway...the more I read about all this Twilight movie being made the more I become interested in the book... I know its a teen read and I'm not exactly the target readership and everything...but it just sounds really interesting...I've got to look for this book at the library...Yep that's what I'll do ... :)

Posters Galore: Prom Night

Quite like the poster. The choice of colour...texture... tiara falling over face and having an image of a scream. But I'm confuse...Is she screaming in fear or for joy...I mean I know its a horror flick and its quite obvious it should be fear...but still...its quite ambiguous...it could be either way. If they were trying for fear...well they didn't make it quite very clear.

ComingSoon.net has its plot summary as Donna's senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life, one of magic, beauty, and love. Surrounded by her best friends, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns from magic to murder there is only one man who could be responsible... the man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer, and survive their Prom Night.

Apparently this Prom Night is another remake coming to us in 2008 among a string of other remakes. I have neither watched nor heard of the original which goes by the same name and stars Jamie Lee Curtis...but hey...I'm curious to see how this looks like...I remember the mid to late 90's as the period of teen slasher flicks...Now could this flick be as big Scream...?
