Sarah Michelle Gellar's Alice
The status on this Alice movie is rather confusing. Let me see...IMDB states the film status is still in pre-production but has its released date at July 2008. But then...I read a very recent post on WorstPreviews about how Sarah Michelle Gellar, who owns the film rights to the game, is still trying to develop it into a movie...to get it up and running. Of course initially, Sarah Michelle Gellar herself was set to play Alice, but as she herself has said, if the movie doesn't start working soon she maybe too old. Wonder who will be actual Alice? So basically what this means...its not likely we'll ever get to see it in 2008. :(

I'd imagine 2008 is impossible with the ongoing writer's strike, unless they already have a script. Given the visuals in the game I'm guessing even if they started soon getting it done with special effects and post production would be tough... but then again it is a relatively low budget production (at least, it ought to be... it's an adaptation of a relatively low profile, 8 year old game).
ReplyDeleteI think SMG is already too old for the part, so a couple more years won't make that big a difference.
I'm kind of anticipating this film, assuming it ever gets made, just because the idea that such a bizarre film (based on a bizarre game) exists would be cool! :)
I don't think theres a script. SMG did say she might have to get down and write it herself and I forgot all about the writers strike...so I agree...2008 is definitely impossible.
ReplyDeleteI've never played the game...It came around a time where I wasn't playing much. And from what I understand it is a pc game...which was never my thing. Alice in Wonderland has always been this twisted bizarre story that I never quite understood ... but this little adaptation with a grown up Alice going back to Wonderland sounds like an interesting and promising dark wicked little tale. The visuals is definitely something to look out for right?
