Hayden Christensen playing a teenager? I guess its passable...still has that boyish look...yes?
First Impressions...It began ok...Going with the mundane everyday life(of course with that ability ... teleportation),then Davey starts teleporting to the Big Ben and sunbathing on the Sphinx's head...and it starts too look a tad cheesy, very teen flicky almost going to the Covenant direction...Arrogant teenagers flaunting their super powers thing... Thats until Samuel L Jackson characters start to appear on screen...and boy does he look menacing with his retractable baton thingy...The movie reunites Hayden and Samuel again. And I guess Mace Windu is finally exacting revenge on Vader boy ya :). And Jamie Bell kinda reminds me of NightCrawler in X-Men.
The action sequences look cool enough...very futuristic...though I've never been much a fan of futuristic movies. My predictions...I doubt it would really make much of a wave at the box office...but we'll wait and see. Check out the trailer yourself below.

The First Movie You've Ever Watch at the Cinema
So what was the first movie that you've ever watch at the cinema.
Mine...if memory has not failed me, was Curly Sue. I was just a kid...of course it had to be a family comedy type of movie. It wasn't a huge blockbuster or anything but hey I can still pretty much remember the main storyline too. An orphan girl and her homeless guardian cons and crashes at a rich lawyer's apartment...and I found it to be a fun movie and enjoyed it very much (then and I guess now too)...Certainly memorable enough for me to remember it all these years (Hah..of course I think I must have watched it at least once after that...when it was shown on tv...bout maybe 7 years ago) I think I even remember where I watched it...It was one of the theaters at Bedok...I think its the one thats now a football club or something right?...Hah...remember those days where all the movie theaters are one whole buildings...not part of shopping centers as they are now...Ahh those were the days...
So what's your first movie?
Trailer Watch: Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses

I have to admit...when I first read of this movie...I thought the plot was incredibly stupid...a young woman becoming a bridesmaid 27 times but never a bride. I mean come on...who becomes a bridesmaid 27 times...who even wants to? Weddings are such tiresome events...why want to be soo involved in it 27 times!!! I mean seriously not being a bride is not the worst thing...being involved in soo many weddings is...
Anyway, the trailer is out...and I saw it. Its not bad...Actually it looked like a rather cute, fun chick flick...I definitely want to check this one out. (Hah...I even like the poster...its certainly different...a dress madeof scribbles...and still cute). Well maybe its Katherine Heigl...she's so pretty and has the whole likeable factor going on for her...which is kinda a wonder why her character in the movie seems to be single through out the trailer? Oh well not for long I guess...as the handsome James Marsden...aka Cyclops will be playing the love interest. The movie also reminds me a bit of My Best Friends Wedding...maybe its the whole wedding and the whole enduring the wedding of the guy you like thing. Anyhow check out the trailer yourself below.

So anyway with him gone...who's taking his place as Jack Salmon? Its Mark Wahlberg...he should be the right age for the part...yes? The right look? We'll just have to wait and see...And lets recap who's play who.
Mark Wahlberg ... Jack Salmon

Teresa Palmer as Wonder Woman in Justice League Movie
The internet has been buzzing with the news that Teresa Palmer...that girl in December Boys and the Grudge 2...has landed the role of Wonder Woman in George Miller's Justice League. So what do you think? Is she Wonder Woman? I've never really been interested in Wonder Woman...not the comic...not the tv show...not the character...for one thing...what is she wearing??? But Teresa Palmer? She's so girly looking...not womanly looking enough to be the woman that Wonder Woman is. But hey it has been said that this will be a young looking Justice League. Isn't everyone going younger these days...look at Batman in Batman Begins...I'm guessing we will be seeing a much younger Batman in this Justice League. Wonder who will land the coveted roles of Superman and Batman...

Meet the Spartans : A spoof of 300

Yet another parody/spoof movie.
First there were the Scary Movies...then Date Movie...then Epic Movie...Now its Meet the Spartans. 300 was such a big hit of 2007...its hardly a surprise someone would spoof it...but to have a whole movie to spoof it. Wow...I didn't see that coming....Now what I want to see them spoof is...the whole thing with the Spartans, going to war bare chested with no body armour...Like what???...Now that would be pretty funny.
I dunno though...I never liked these spoof movies...I tried watching Scary Movie 2 I think...thinking it would be fun and hilarious, the trailer looked funny...but by the end of it...i thought it was incredibly dumb...the funny scenes were very isolated. It seems that the same would go for Meet the Spartans...The trailer is soso...they picked the passable funny scenes for the trailer...but in the end for the movie they usually are never able to string the scenes together coherently...and whats left is an utter mess. Well that's just what I think. Check out the trailer and see for yourself. Oh...and what does the whole Britney hair shaving think has to do with the Spartans? Enlighten me anyone?
Hey I wonder what else they're spoofing next...Maybe a comicbook superhero spoof...yep that should happen...or has it?
Its Been a Busy Week
The lack of entries and updates the past week has been due to me having an extremely busy and exhausting week. I'm thankful that the weekends finally arrived...and now its about to end yet again :( The coming week will be another packed one...so there would be few updates again. I finally caught up with a bunch of movie news this afternoon...and it seems like not much has occurred the last week...at least nothing that has interest me much...Anyway I'll try to add a few stuff for now.
...and well here's to another week.

Movies...Cut Cut Cut!! Attack of the Censors!!!

Did you read Life! Strait Times about a week and a half ago? There was an interesting article about movie censorship. I'll explain in brief. It all began when the distributor of Lust, Caution announced that they will only distribute the cut version of the movie (the version that was edited by Ang Lee for the Chinese Market) which was given a NC 16 rating...now, if they had chosen to bring the uncut version...the rating it would have received would have been R21, if I'm not mistaken. The part that get movie goers upset was that the distributor still chose to bring in only a cut version even though they could have brought the original version...and there are no plans at the moment to even bring the original uncut version. The reason... It is widely understood that its because an NC 16 rated film earns more money than a R21 simply because more people are able to watch it...But what avid movie goers argue is, why try to lower the age limit and allow 16-21 watch it when they may not even be the target audience of an art house film such as Lust, Caution and at the same time alienate its target audience with its self censorship...all in an effort to cash in more money...would it all hurt them back in the end?...currently there is word that some even want to boycott the film...personally I don't think it will affect anything much. The whole episode of censoring Lust, Caution have been printed in the newspapers many a time...While Lust, Caution used to be only known and anticipated by movie and Ang Lee's fans...it is now known by the general public...whose interest has been sparked over the news of the edited violence and sex scenes...I'm sure the number of its potential viewers has increased...because of the whole fuss.
Now the article not only talks about Lust, Caution...apparently other films have suffered self censorship by the distributors as well. The Simpsons was cut...Pans Labyrinth was cut..Hot Fuzz too.All cut cut cut...to get a lower rating, but the distributors shouldn't be the only one blamed...According to the article...the BFC(Board of Film Censor) is to be blamed for its inconsistency in its rating system...that there is no specific guidelines for the ratings...lack of transparency in what constitutes a particular rating. And well I guess...to ensure that they get
the the ratings they want that is ideal for box office takings...some distributors choose to edit and cut themselves. And of course what sucks more is that most of the time viewers don't even know that the movie has been cut...until we go surfing the net and realize people were talking about scenes we didn't see.I mean what the... ...I didn't know Pan's Labyrinth was cut!!! I want to see it in full!!!...the way it was intended to be seen!!!
So what's your thoughts on all this? Me...well I agree with a lot of what the article says. If it is a commercial film...those comedy, action, family types...like I don't know...Fantastic 4 or Oceans 13...I guess its ok if some scenes were edited out...but hey I would want to know if they have been cut...so that I would be able to decide for myself to either watch a cut version here and now...or wait for a full version to be released on DVD...as a customer...we should be informed that what we're see is 95% of what was intended to be seen. And if its an 'art house' film...it better be a full version...each scene is 'suppose' to have some significance to the movie as a whole right???...even though some could be downright draggy and boring :) But yeah...actually I prefer to see everything in its full version...but but...if the film couldn't get in at all unless some scenes were edited out...I'd say by all means cut cutt...there is no other way...and of course be transparent with the fact that the movie has been edited...we want to be informed!!
And the whole transparency issue with the BFC...I hope that will work out in time...maybe with an actual guideline for the ratings...more flicks will come to our shores...And hey I guess I was somewhat right...I've just checked...with the whole fuss over the cut version of Lust, Caution...the movie has made it to no 1 at the Box Office list in Singapore for 30 Sep to 7 Oct... :)

Johnny Depp in Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Johnny Depp in yet another Tim Burton film, this time in Sweeny Todd...playing none other than the title role. This is a fairly anticipated movie...mostly because...I guess because it does star Johnny Depp and all...but I never paid much attention to it...I was never really a big fan of Johnny Depp...and knew almost nothing of this flick.Plus who is this Sweeny Todd? This demon barber from Fleet Street? Sounds like a Jack the Ripper like character to me...And I had only read recently that its actually a musical. A musical?I have to say...the poster looks great...so dark...and such a menacing looking character...and the splashes or red...wicked...Now are we really going to see that character dance around...and sing?Is that going to work?
The trailer is out...and you have to check it out. I'd say it looks like a mix of Sleepy Hollow with a dash of serial killer from From Hell...a splash of colour from Big Fish, a sprinkle of white powders and razor sharp ends from Edward Scissorhands and tunes of songs from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...ta-daa...we get Sweeny Todd. Haha...Very theatrical... Maybe the whole musical will work...It is after all a pretty successful Broadway/ West End musical...I want to watch it.

Want to watch Scary Movies this October?

Well October is Halloween month. So Arts Central has a couple of films lined up for its FilmArt - Scary October program this October. The movies will be shown every Sunday at 10 pm.
7 October - The Devil'Backbone
14 October - Thesis
21 October - Open Your Eyes
28 October - The Ring O: Birthday.
I've watched 2 of the movies...I loved the Devil's Backbone...what a heart wrenching tale...and the ghosts aren't the scariest things...If you have watched Pan's Labyrinth and loved it, you definitely have to catch this one too...Highly recommended. The second movie is the Ring 0: Birthday...though I can't say much of the film...you see I've forgotten much of the story...not only that, but because I watched at least 3 of the Ring films...including the remake...all the stories and story lines for me...have overlapped and fused together...I can hardly differentiate which story line belongs to which film...hehe. But if you've watched the Ring...you might be interested to watch this...this is after all the prequel...and should explain the origins of the Ring.
So...if you like scary movies...tune in to Arts Central every Sunday at 10pm this October. the first movie is showing tonight! Go Watch!!!And if you wanna know about the movies being shown, go to Arts Central website here and here

Interesting Links: 25 stars under 25, Top 100 Foreign Films
MovieFone's 25 Under 25 Hollywood's Hottest Young Stars --- Interesting list...Hmm I don't get how Megan Fox and Dakota Blue Richards got onto the list...Megan Fox, she's only done like Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen...which is like...just the typical teen flick for tween girls...and Transformers...this years summer blockbuster for the fanboys. And Dakota Blue Richards...we haven't even gotten to see her perform...her movies might tank. Then again I'm not A Hollywood Expert...
Top 100 Foreign Films Ever Made --- Haha, Pathetic right....I've only watched like 2 out of the 100. Actually I haven't even heard of some of them.
Check out my Interesting Links page
I'm adding more stuff to my blog. If you've been to my old Wordpress site, you would have seen that I had created an Interesting Links page. Its basically where I share some of the interesting links (movie related or not) of posts/articles or what ever on the net that I’ve come across like the ones featured on the IMDB hitlist…(they’re gone soo quick…some of those are pretty interesting too..too bad IMDB doesn’t keep an archive of those links). Yes so you can even view my old page here if you're curious. But I'm not exactly sure how to create a new page here on Blogger. So what I'll do is that I'll label each Interesting Links post as Interesting Links...thus you can access the page and all the posts by clicking on the Interesting Links label on the sidebar. Confusing? I hope not. Ok so I'll begin adding here with the previous Interesting Links I had added. So click away.

Posters Galore: Iron Man Teaser Poster Is Out

Yep the poster is out. Its simple but looks cool enough...looks all serious and grim. And the polished gold and reds...nice.
But a movie about a man in a metal armour suit...I dunno...it just sounds like a bad idea...I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Emma Watson...aka Hermione Granger, in Ballet Shoes
Sometime ago, about last year I think...there were news or rumour saying that Emma had yet to sign on for the last two Harry Potter flicks...that she was still considering or something...I guess that part was true because she only signed on earlier this year...And the part that was only a rumour...was probably the one that she wasn't even sure she wants to keep acting(read a post from slashfilm here, I even wrote on it here)
Well I guess that rumour was proven wrong. Like her Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe, she will now grace the small screens. She will be seen in Ballet Shoes and plays one of the orphans who gets adopted by an eccentric explorer. You can read more about the tv movie at its IMDB movie page and go to this site here to view more of the pictures.
Seems like this isn't the only movie she will be 'starring in' too. She is actually voicing a character called Princess Pea for an animated movie called The Tale of Despereaux, which will be released December 2008.
Haha...so I guess we can be sure to see Emma Watson continue to act for now...in the small and the big screens.

The Other Boleyn Girl...The Poster is out
Yep thats the poster...with the three main cast on it ( Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana and Natalie Portman) Its the same image thats is used for the cover of the movie tie in book. I like it and all...they all look gorgeous in it...but I had hoped they had come up with something else...maybe something more royal/regal looking? Hmm...I dunno...give us a something simple just a crown? A throne...Or maybe the king at the throne...and the two girls by his side, his hand holding one of the girls hand...except that we don't see their faces...something that's sort of a tease...kinda like the book cover where the face is cut off...:) I've said this before...this poster just seems very romance novel like. Hopefully they have other yet to be released posters...Maybe even character posters? That would be cool...With all the characters splendid and proud. Hmm...what do you think?
I am actually reading the book right now. Its an easy read and very entertaining and I am highly anticipating the screen adaption. Too bad the poster and a few released pictures is all we have right now...no glimpses at how the movie is gonna be like...still no trailers...and the official website...still bare. So until then...the movie profile page here
Opens 29 February 2008 (US)
An American Haunting (2005)

The Story: During the 1800s, the Bell family of Red River, Tenn., was visited by an unknown presence that haunted the family and eventually caused the death ...( read more
)of one of its members. What started as small sounds around the farm and the sighting of a black, yellow-eyed wolf escalated into physical brutality against certain family members and general psychological and physical torment. The attacks grew in strength and the family starts to fear that a local woman who had been believed to practice witchcraft had put a curse upon them and tries desperately to undo the curse.
**Contain Spoilers**
There just so many movies out there that market themselves as based on true stories or true events...and so does this one too. Though from what I've read...this movie isn't actually based on the actual events...in fact, the movie is supposedly closely based on Brent Monahan (he actually teams up with the director to write the screenplay of the movie) novel, The Bell Witch: An American Haunting, a more fictional take of the events, that alleges that John Bell sexually assaulted his daughter. So aside from the whole based on true events thing...how is the actual movie?
I thought the movie starts of decently enough. The premise of the movie sounds interesting ...a young girl from a respected family being possessed and attacked by an entity. The sets was good and the costumes were pretty...the atmosphere was set...it was dark and grim...just the type you'd imagine for a horror/ghost movie. Then the haunting begins...the entity starts to hold Betsy Bell (the daughter) down...throwing her against the wall, dragging her across the floor...pulling her hair as she hung from above the ground and slapped across the the face...the girl went through some horrible torture...I guess this was where most of the problems with the movie began, I thought the effects here were pretty weak...it just wasn't scary looking enough...clearly we could see Betsy was being held up...it just looks waayy too fake. Another curious thing was that why had the family not try to get Betsy out of the room...out of the house...out to anywhere...it just seems they just let her be in that room. No one tried to accompany her in that room,...you'd thought the mother would want to protect her child right? In the legend...it was explained that the entity followed her almost everywhere...maybe that's why they didn't try moving...but it was clearly not shown in the movie. The movie was also slow moving...developments were slow. What we pretty much get is just scene after scene of the entity attacking Betsy. It would have been great to have included other witnesses to the hauntings...and showed incidents that occurred outside the house...Including the visit by Andrew Jackson, the future U.S president...would have been an interesting addition to the story.
But I guess worst of all was the 'twist' ending that the entity wasn't just an evil spirit, curse or whatever...it was the repressed memories and anger of Betsy who was sexually assaulted by her father, that manifested into the powerful menacing entity that attacked her body in front of everyone, for all to see what she had suffered. Gosh...I didn't know this was where it was going, I came in thinking it was a possession/exorcism type of movie. In any case I seriously don't think the story came together well enough for an ending such as that to hold. And to think they actually added more to the whole story in including a present day scene of a descendant being warned by Betsy Bell's spirit that her daughter was also being abused by her ex husband??? Were they trying to fire more holes into a sinking ship???...The movie was leaky as it was.
So yes...the movie was weak...It definitely wasn't worth the ticket...haha...Luckily I only rented it, but you know there are worst flicks out there. You know what, I guess the one thing that one gets out off watching this flick, is an interest and curiosity to know the actual events that this movie is based around. So head over to Wikipedia's Bell Witch page for a basic read...they also included a couple of links if you're still interested to read more.
Daniel Radcliffe in My Boy Jack
So December Boys wasn't a success in the box office. According to IMDB.com the $4 million movie only made $15,810 during its opening weekend...Now I dunno much about box office takings...but from what I've read, that was rather disappointing...Quite surprise actually...I thought, with the Harry Potter boy in it...I thought it would get noticed and all...Turns out though, it had limited release and the reviews wasn't all that glowing. I guess it should have been expected...they only had one big name star...Daniel Radcliffe...and he has yet to have the leading boy/man status...now you know the Harry Potter movies don't count, as Harry Potter the character has a life of its own way before Daniel Radcliffe helmed the role...so he couldn't possible carry this movie...smashing the box office and all...plus it did had a pretty modest budget and with the whole limited release thing...So I guess its lack of success was pretty expected.
Hence what's next...what else can we expect to see from Daniel Radcliffe...Well next...he'll be gracing the small screens as Jack Kipling, the son of Rudyard Kipling in the TV movie My Boy Jack. According to IMDB.com the story is of the author Rudyard Kipling and his wife as they search for their son, Jack when he goes missing during WWI. So now instead of donning the Hogwarts uniform...he dons a WWI military uniform. Now will he look dashing in the uniform?...Look below. :)
Haha he actually sports a mustache...he looks a tad older than he is, doesn't he...pretty geeky and again with oval/round like glasses. You know seeing that this is a TV movie...I doubt we will ever get to see it here (haha even December Boys...will we get it here?). Or maybe we will...if Hallmark buys it...they usually get those family type of films...though even if they do...will probably only get to see it like in 1-2 years time...
So for now check out the other set pictures here.
Batman Begins Sequel...The Dark Knight

I was never really a big fan of Batman...he didn't really have any cool powers...All he had was tons of money...and with tons of money...you had power right...the power to buy the coolest gadgets and a whole lot of other stuff. Plus...I hated Gotham city...it was scary...so cold and dark and gloomy. Nevertheless I did pretty much watch most of the films...I'm a sucker for comic book/super heroes movies...and Batman Begins was pretty cool. So...with its huge success...its a hardly a surprise they've decided to make the sequel The Dark Knight, coming to us in July 2008. The teaser trailer is out...you can view below...but it doesn't give us much...just the batman symbol and a few voice overs. Even their website has nothing...
So anyway...I was surfing the net as usual...reading what's up in the movie world...when I came across some pictures (not sure when these were released...probably sometime ago) from the new movie. Batman still looks pretty much the same...but remember how Joker looked like in Batman(1966) and Batman(1989). Well lets refresh your memory if you have forgotten.
Cesar Romero in Batman(1966)Jack Nicholson in Batman (1989)
They all are crazy looking with their faces painted white...and their mouths painted red...into that sinister smile, grinning from ear to ear. But the new Joker...the face...now that a whole level of crazy

Here's an extreme close up of the Joker (Heath Ledger) He looks psychotic...does he not? Creepy...And is that fresh scars on his cheeks.

The make-ups a mess...not in a bad way...I mean you can't expect a crazed fellow putting on a nice clean red lipstick on the lips...I'd imagined they would just smudge it on and go. And with the stringy blonde hair.. Totally derange looking.

And here, Joker is with Rachel Dawes...played by Maggie Gyllenhaal...yes...this was the role that was previously played by Katie Holmes.
Ok, so Heath Ledger looks absolutely wicked as the Joker...for now...the Dark Knight looks pretty good to me...
So excited about the Dark Knight? Check out more of the pictures on Movies.com. And since the website is not really functional...I say, check out its IMDB page here.
